Magix 2013 compability with Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface

Klok wrote on 3/20/2013, 3:05 AM

Hi

I am unable to adda VST intstrument/plug-in - Even thoug files are installed, MAgix does not find files the while when trying to "add a new VST instrument". The problem is concerning the USB audio interface i want to use for recording vocals: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB interface. However, in file manager the files appear but I get the error message that says that the .dll file cannot be read by Magix.

I am using Magix Musix Maker 2013 but suppose this is problem is concerning all versions.

,Anyone? How to add a USB audio interface like this? Help is much appreciated.

I am using Windows 7, 8GB RAM.

Maybe you should tary changing the file extension form .dll to .wav and see waht happens.  You can always change the file extension back to .dll....just a thought

Hi

Don't change file names as suggested by Gnarly - @ Gnarly the advice is incorrect for this device

The device it is an analog to digital sound converter which connects to the computer by USB - it is not a VST instrument

If you have installed the drivers for the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB interface then when you press the record button the device should be selectable in the Please choose Audio Driver option. of the Audio recording dialog.

Make sure the device is plugged in before start Music Maker

John...thanks for the additional help....but he did say it was a VST instrument he had and as you know, he could've downloaded one from who knows where

To clarify, The USB audio device is fine, it is able to record, but not based on the right channels. This is what I experience: While singing, I only hear my vocal in the right headphone. If I don’t tick off for “mono” recording, the vocal also will be ight-sounded. I need to direct/choose channel on the USB Audio Device that will give me opportunity to guide the mic to the computer as a complete 1/1 sound, not ½ stereo sound only on one ear.  It is the Scarlett Plug-In Suite (included on the USB Audio device) I am not able to add as a VST instrument. Is there another way to add the plug-in panel in a other way than a VST instrument?

I am not able to control the USB Audio Device directly, it can only be done through this plug-in which is dependent on the recording software. I have tried everything but is seems like Magic Music Maker does not have the compability to a common USB Audio Interface.

This should be simple, however I experience the opposite.

There are several issues at work here.  One is that you do not understand the problem(s) or how to communicate the issues properly, thus creating confusion for everyone.  Another is that the Scarlett interface is designed to be compatible "with most major DAW's" - MAGIX Music Maker is NOT a full-fledged DAW - it is a music editing software.  Thus,  MMM may not be able to incorporate a "suite" of plug-ins - perhaps only as single plug-ins, but that's just a guess.

One issue is that the Scarlett Plug-in Suite is NOT a VST instrument - it is an EFFECTS suite. You do not need to have the Scarlett Plug-in Suite installed to use the interface - it is only for effects.  You would install it in the MMM "Synth" folder like most other plug-ins, BUT the effects will be found in the mixer's track effects slots, assuming MMM can install them at all.

Regarding the microphone, since it is a mono source, it will be transmitted on only one channel, UNLESS you run it through a stereo mixer first.  Otherwise, you MUST choose to record a MONO track in MMM so that it will record as a standard, balanced mono track.

I am new this, so I am sorry for the confusion.

Ok, so if the effects are not available in MMM. So how to choose settings for recoring using the the decice?

My main wish is jto only choose"mode" (i know exists) from the plug-in to direct/choose channel the mono/stereo sound so I get the -only-right-ear-problem.

Am I able to do that without installing the plug-in?

Hi

. . . . Regarding the microphone, since it is a mono source, it will be transmitted on only one channel, UNLESS you run it through a stereo mixer first  . . . .

Or without using a stereo mixer, record the mono mike as normal this will go into the right channel only.

Then right click the audio clip and select Audio Effects, Stereo processor.  From the preset options dropdown select Both channels = R.

This will duplicate the right channel into the left and you can use the Pan-direction to position the sound source left/right on the stage.

"to only choose"mode" (i know exists) from the plug-in"

I'm afraid you are mistaken. The Scarlett Plug-In Suite has no such "mode".  The Scarlett Plug-In Suite is simply an effects suite.  I was able to download and successfully install the Scarlett Plug-In Suite in MM-15.  As I stated previously, the effects can be accessed through the track effects slots in the mixer.  The ONLY benefit to installing it is the addition of the Gate unit.  MAGIX Music Maker already has EQ, Compressor, and Reverb units for individual objects and the arrangement as a whole.

Other than that, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB interface is just a standard, simple audio interface.  As long as it is properly installed and set as the input (recording) and output (playback) device on your computer, it will work as intended.

The (mono) microphone issue is an entirely separate matter.  The interface and effects suite will have no effect on it what-so-ever.  As I stated previously, if MMM is set to record the track as "mono", it "should" give you the results you're looking for.  If not, then someone else will have to set the record straight.

[edit] Or, what he said.  Thanks John. [/edit]

Agreed - there was some confusion in the original post as acknowledged by the OP.
