Hi

This could be a problem with the sound card settings - I would guess you have a Realtek HDA audio. 

You need to make sure that the default devices for playback and recording are set correctly - see Control Panel, Sound, Playback (and Recording) tabs.

Right click anywhere in the middle box and select Show Disabled Devices - on the recording tab you should see the Stereo mixer - enable this device.

Also check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the control panel to check everything is working.

If it is not a Realtek HDA then come back with the make and model of the onboard sound device.
