*.m2ts files, NO preview, NO sound

Peter-Lobotka wrote on 12/6/2020, 10:49 AM

For about 2 years I was resistant to upgrade Video ProX7 to Video Pro X (v.18). Yestreday I did so, paid 144Eur and I am completely dissapointed. Most of my archive is in *.m2ts format. But this new version does not work at all: there is no preview and no sound. I tried *.mp4, it works normally. After installation I was asked to buy additionally some audio support (4.99Eur), but it did not help. Then I tried to uninstall the new version- it did not help either. I suggest to Magix company not to use the word "Pro" for this software since it is far from "professional". I hope to receive the solution of this strange problem asap. Fortunately, ProX7 version works fine. I have Win7 on Toshiba laptop and NEC 275wmi monitor.

peter

Hi Peter and welcome to the VPX user to user forum.

There are no Magix Employees here.

VPX 11 and VPX 12 do not work on Windows 7 or possibly even on your laptop if Win 10 was installed depending on the age of the laptop.

Did you read the specifications page for the new version before purchase?

You could try enquiring for a refund using the email Magix sent with the activation code citing the reasons you give here. You would have to deactivate the program from your registered account after agreement from Magix before receiving the repayment.

Other than the Windows 7 problem, you can try going to Program settings, Import/Export tab and unchecking "Hardware acceleration for playback if possible."

If that doesn't work, then under Program settings, Display options, change the video mode to Compatibility mode.

Failing that, then it's likely the W7 problem.

I just tried some old mts files in VPX12 on W10 and they work fine.

Hi John.

Even though at the time Video ProX7 was promoted as being Windows 10 compatible the hardware requirements were much less. Peter is complaining about not having sound or video showing. Although disabling the hardware acceleration may work if there is enough ram, I very much doubt it will be an improved user experience over his older version on that laptop. More likely it will crawl along. Video ProX7 only required an undefined Intel 2.1GHz processor and 2GB of ram with an output resolution of 1080 x 1920.

After installation I was asked to buy additionally some audio support (4.99Eur).

This is interesting - there seem to be others having trouble with Dolby Digital AC3 material and .mts files and activation of the codec which used to be free but maybe you have to buy it now? Maybe you just need to buy it for Win7 and it is included in Win10 but then as John has pointed out VPX12 is officially not compatible with Win7..

@Peter-Lobotka - What is the full version number ie patch number of VPX12 as written in Help menu > about Video Pro X?

Hi

Assuming the .m2ts file is AC3 encoded Surround Sound audio, this was a known issue with Windows 7 caused by the codec going missing after an update.

To check if the codec is missing:

  1. Download and install GSpot 2.70a (no comments on the name please, and yes it is old but it works)

  2. Open the Zip file and extract the .exe and .dat files to a folder of your choice - there is no other installation needed.

  3. Double click the .exe file to run it.

  4. Select Tables, Audio Codes

  5. Look for an entry as shown below, if it is not there the codec is missing.

Hi

A recent post in the German Forum complained as follows:-

How can you go back to 2020 after updating to Video Deluxe Plus 2021 and need the AC3 codec on Windows 7 again for importing MTS videos and for creating MPEG4 videos? This went smoothly with the 2020 version and should no longer be possible since Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7. Going back is also not possible, I uninstalled the 2021 and reinstalled the 2020 and it is not possible to reactivate the AC3 codec.

The link in the German Forum to a Magix Support Help page:-

Import / export of AC3 5.1 in Win 7/8/10 11/23/2020

Products - View all products

. Photostory Deluxe

. Fastcut

. Rescue Your Videotapes!

. Movie Edit Pro

theme

. Technical problems / error messages

Due to the end of support for Windows 7, it is unfortunately no longer possible for us to support AC3 Stereo / 5.1 Sound in import or export.
The export of AC3 / 5.1 sound in Windows 8/10 systems is also no longer possible.
The import of the AC3 format in Windows 8/10 systems is still possible without restrictions.

Hopefully this is not the case in VPX12 or I am a bit stymied. I am still too scared to update because I can not see the changelog information for the latest .89 patch as the link in the update window only brings up the changes for the .85 patch!

Anyone have a definitive on this one?

Peter

Hi Peter.

Sorry I can't help.

Any past (and limited) work I've done in 5.1 surround sound has been done using PCM wav format files.

As far as I'm aware the dropping of the codec is due to pressure from Dolby Digital Labs to get Microsoft to drop it due to Digital Rights Management concerns.

Ray.

Dear colleagues, thank you for your comments and advice. I decided to give it up and asked for refunding my recent purchase. I found I was quite happy with old version of my VPX7😁. Christmas time should be about peace, joy and happiness - not about fighting with strange software😀.

Hi Peter.

I actually bothered to check if the settings for surround sound aac were still in the export dialogues And they are in MEP 2021 ad VPX 11. Assuming VPX 12 has the same base settings I would assume it is still there.

Here it is in MEP 2021.
