Lost the Jog/Shuttle

terrypin wrote on 5/24/2018, 11:50 AM

Baffling problem in MEPP 2016 (15.00.114):

Seems that I have to resize entire MEP window to full screen to see the tool, which I do not want.

Same with any project. Same after using F9 and resizing.

Also, possibly related, when I try to close MEP, another 'empty' screen appears and I have to close that too.

Wondering if this morning's Win 10 update to 1803 (17134.48) is relevant?

Anyone else seeing similar please?

EDIT: MEPP 2014 versus later?

Hi Terry,

I'm still on W10 1709 and not looking forward to 1803 at all.

You say that you went full-screen and that the jog wheel was not there. But on the normal screen, did you try dragging the preview window wider? It looks to me that you don't have enough space for it and the other slider to show up.

Above is my default screen and I pressed F9. Nothing changed.

Hi Terry

Based on your preview monitor settings you have set and screen arrangement in your image this is what I get with MEP 2016 v15.0.0.114 on Windows 1803 - I think I got the screen layout sizes approx the same as yours

Did you try resetting the Windows to Default rather than using F9 - Reset window arrangement?

Hi both,

Thanks for getting on the case.

MEPP is shown below at my preferred position/size of 0,0/1441x1172. It's important that I maintain that, so F9 and defaults are not options for me.

But as you see I've temporarily widened the preview monitor just sufficiently for the jog wheel to appear. However, if I then go full screen it is not visible.

And widening the preview (while maintaining its height so as to show at least 11 tracks, another desirable requirement for me) is unacceptable anyway. Several of my macros are critically dependent on pixel positions. It also wastes space, with unnecessarily wide side borders. I had no such gripes with MEPP 2014!

Is this is how it's always been with MEPP 2016/7 and not another of the quirks I've encountered today following the WU? If so then (apart from being embarrassed not to have noticed it before!) I have two choices.
1. Widen the preview (presumably more than I've done for the screenshot, so that full screen also shows the wheel) and edit the affected macros.

2. Stay with my present preferences and temporarily widen when I really must use the wheel.

EDIT:

And not even if I maximise the entire MEPP window!

Hi Terry,

I just retried MEP2016P. With full screen, I get the jog wheel and slider even when the preview window has been reduced so that they don't show before going full screen. Up to John EB to confirm for 1803.

Third alternative, get the ShuttlePro V2. No more need for the on-screen jog wheel and slider.

Thanks John. Hoping to hear that John EB gets same as me, i.e. cannot see the wheel at all in full screen! And then wait for MS to fix whatever the WU screwed up.

Or look for some other cause of my issue. Otherwise not sure what my next step will be. But it won't be £88 for a ShuttlePro V2!

Hmm, suppose I'd better do a reboot too...

Duh - I should have done that earlier, sorry! I had rebooted twice today after the WU, but not after encountering this wheel issue.

After rebooting the PC I now get what I assume is correct behaviour and is what I had before today. Namely, wheel always visible full screen but not in normal mode unless preview monitor is widened.

Apologies for wasting your time as well as mine.

Pleased you are sorted, however just to round off the topic - sorry to disappoint I get the jog wheel full screen.

. . . . I'm still on W10 1709 and not looking forward to 1803 at all . . . .

After my experience with my lap top - the tally is 1 failed online update and 2 trashed installations using the Windows Update Assistant and Windows Media creation tool (ISO image) I know how you feel. Currently re-imaging the Windows 10 1703 back on to the laptop.

I think the issue is related to the EFI partition not being set up correctly or the the user account is crippled/trashed or has insufficient priveleges. Whether the fact that my laptop has a legacy AMI Bios whereas my PC has a UEFI bios has any bearing on this I do not know, however that is the only significant difference between to the 2 computers.

If you have Windows 10 Professional you can postpone/stop the update.

Hi Terry

Forgot to ask - do you use Ctrl + left/right arrow key to 'jog' left/right 5 frames at a time?

Hi John,

Yes, occasionally, but I mainly use the jog wheel. I find that especially useful when placing KFs of a symbol on a twisty walk/hike/drive. It was when routinely starting such a task yesterday, in full screen mode, that I was dismayed to find my wheel gone AWOL. On then going back to normal mode, with the wheel still absent, I jumped hastily to the wrong suspicion about a WU issue. (I'd already had three others that morning!) But, of course, that wheel never was visible in normal mode with my personal MEP screen setup, ever since MEPP 2015.

It was fine in MEP 2014.

Hi Terry

How about £40 for the Shuttle Express?

Pity Magix do not have there own jog dial, I have seen their custom keyboard in Germany - looks good, however very colourful.
