Looking for video clips - and how to add

playoftheyear wrote on 8/2/2019, 6:54 AM

I like the 2020 version and free update. I made some nice music videos using stock video clips in the past version of music maker. But now I am drawing a blank on what location to start. I used to use a track to drop video clips on then could splice these together using video effects.

But where do I begin, for instance, if I have a project and an open track to start? I am looking for the video ….

this is probably one of those things that are right in front of my face...

Hi

AFAICS there is no difference in the procedure for adding video media to a track as in previous versions of Music Maker.

Please explain in more detail on what the issue/difference is that you are having compared to previous version you were using.

I remember moving installation of projects and soundpools to a new location on a solid state drive. I might have lost the video files somewhere I the process, when I updated to the 2020 version also on a new PC.

I recall using an open track to do the video drag and drop from a list. Just do not remember how to open that list, and possibly the location of where video clips is stored.

any help is appreciated, thanks.

I suspect what you are looking for is the File Manager for locating files on your computer in Music Maker - see image below

Is this correct?

You can also drag and drop file from Windows File Explorer onto a track - you can also use this to search a drive or folder to locate all video files.

Not quite. thanks though. I remember using video monitor to watch the videos as I was creating them. I recall using the lower window the one with keyboard, loops and inspector - there I was choosing the clips to place on the track. Does this seems right? but something is missing now, and am not sure if I have the stock video clips that comes with Music maker, anymore or if I lost them.

Hi

. . . . I recall using the lower window the one with keyboard, loops and inspector . . . .

These are still available however some items have changed position in the later versions of MMM.

Under the View menu item you will find all the panes that can be displayed - select the ones you want.

. . . . am not sure if I have the stock video clips that comes with Music maker, anymore or if I lost them . . .

I assume you mean the Visuals that came with earlier versions of Music Maker.

Assuming you did not un-install the old version then these should be in the folder

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker version \Visuals

or

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker version\year\Visuals

Also check that the new install of MMM recognised your older version if it was MMM 2016 or earlier - open Help, Activate edition... you should see if the old version has been activated, if not then you can enter the serial number to activate all the Soundloops, Instruments etc from the earlier versions - you may have to download and install them again from the Store tab.

Alright that's all good info.

I have got C\programdata\musicmaker\27 or

C\programdata\musicmaker\28

in \28 looks like it is where the visuals should be as I have folders for all types of plugins, synths, overlays etc. and \video effects. But no \visuals

also I have music maker 2019 activated and got a free update for the 2020 version recently.

I found nothing from the VIEW tab either. Probably am looking for a way to get the visuals folder without reinstalling everything all over again. This would be easier because I had to set up folders from my D drive in the settings folders tab. I would not have moved anything having to do with program files or program data because those are usually intertwined with the windows system in general.

Hi

What is/was the oldest version of Music Maker you have/had?

AFAICS on my PC, the last version to include visuals was MMM 2017 ie v 24.x.x.x

Try using Windows File Explorer to search for the video files using *.mxv as the search term

If you do not have them then there are a lot of free video loops available on the Internet that can be used as visuals - ensure you get a supported format ie .avi, .wmv, .asf, or .mov - MMM also supports Magix own video format .mxv.

I found a zipped file for visuals it was in documents - shopmanager - downloads rather. I extracted the folder to where I think it should go , like I stated in my previous post -C\programdata\musicmaker\28 and made a new folder named Visuals , then put all I extracted into this folder.

The earliest I have is the free version I tried back in May/June this year, then purchased that one called 2019 in June. Then in July, this past month, I got my new PC and installed music maker and was told that there was a new version and it is free for me, that is 2020 or current.

Is there a step by step video on how to create the video? I am asking this because - Although I can find and use the visuals items NOW, from the Right hand side menu's File Manager....it is not quite the same as how I used it before - from the bottom screen where it is keyboard, loops, inspector. Seeing as I have to double click the visual item from the Right side file manager to import into project. I would very much like to use it as I had done before - dragging and dropping from the lower screen, ya see.. the visuals were in their own place - albeit somewhere below the project screen and I tend to keep things neat and don't necessarily like to lose track of and managing file locations.

Hi

. . . . the Right hand side menu's File Manager . . . . I would very much like to use it as I had done before . . . .

That is the only way from within MMM. The tabs have had significant changes in the latest MMM 2020 reverting back to a similar layout as in older versions of the program, however some tabs have been dropped - Visuals being one of them - and others moved.

IMHO you would be better extracting the Visuals to a folder within your Documents folder - this will ensure they are still there in the event of a major update moving files around again.

. . . . I have to double click the visual item from the Right side file manager to import into project . . . .

You can drag and drop, as before, from the File Manager - ensure the video file is selected first.
