Looking for a special voice effect - OZZY's IRON MAN

Captain-S wrote on 4/14/2020, 7:35 PM

I run both version of Magix Music Maker versions 14 and 24.1 under Windows 10. Now, I want to recreate the intro sound from the track Iron Man of Black Sabbath (i.e. the bit where Ozzy sings "I am... Iron Man..." with a robot/echoed sound). I want to record myself singing it and modify my recording to sound like the original recording. I tried several templates like robot, compression, etc. but I did not quite have it yet. Thanks! Captain S. :0)

Do you have the vocoder effect in your version of Music Maker? If you would use it with the 'Electric' carrier sample you'll get something similar. But it is not perfect. You would need to create your own carrier sample to get something that sounds like the original.

There is this myth that Black Sabbath created the effect by recording the singing through a running metal fan. Maybe try this? 😉

@SP.

Definitely a myth - no fan in sight when they played live.

Try using the free EMS VCS3 VST to emulate the intro - settings you will have to experiment with.
