Lagarith/HuffYuv Codec Issues

Gday all,

I normally use Lagarith as my capture codec for VHS transfers. I also would like to use it to export losslessly from MEP version 19, but even when I select 4:3 in the export box (Movie setting is also 4:3), the resulting Lagarith AVI is always 5:4.

So I thought I'd try HuffYUV, but for the life of me I cannot get MEP to see it. Virtual Dub can see the 32 bit version of HuffYUV, whereas MEP will not; I assume because MEP is 64 bit.

Unfortunately I cannot get the 64 bit version to install at all, despite following a few guides found on the web.

So, my questions:

Has anybody found Lagarith always ignores MEP's export resolution and exports as 5:4 and

Has anybody successfully got HuffYUV installed so MEP can see it?

'Morning Al - well it's morning here anyway,

First Lagarith. I too have the 5:4 problem. Lagarith saves as 4:3 from VHS in other free encoders but not in MEP (I use 2021 but it appears to be the same in 19). The only workround I've found is to save the file as 720x540 or 704x576. Not ideal I know but it works.

As for HuffYUV, I remember that was a b****r to install the 64 bit, it kept looking for the dll if memory serves, but I wouldn't bother trying it anyway as that only saves in 5:4 format as well and the resultant file size is almost double that of Lagarith as well.

@me_again Thanks Andy, that Huff info will save me a heap of head-butting. I'm actually using my LAGS export files from MEP in VideoRedo (it encodes HEVC 5 times faster than MEP) and I can set VideoRedo to 4:3, so the final product is OK; I just have to remember to set the 4:3 flag each time.

Just gone 1500 here; time for a cuppa!

Al, I forgot to mention in my excitement, have you noticed that when you re-import a Lagarith AVI, that has been exported by MEP at 5:4, back into MEP it comes up at 4:3 both for movie settings and resolution?

I find that somehow interesting: the info must be in the AVI container somewhere even though it's not picked up by Mediainfo.
