Keep getting error message "maximum of 64 tracks supported"

Hi,

I recently posted this same question, and was able to restore most of my project by opening up a recent back up version (I had to re-build a few of the last elements that I had worked on, but the bulk of the project was restored).  I've been continuing to work on this project with no problems until yesterday, when I got the dreaded "maximum of 64 tracks supported".  As before, I am able to open a fairly recent back up version, but I keep having to re-build the last items that I worked on.  It's becoming very time consuming, as I have to do everything twice.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Granta

Hi Granta.

Sorry to hear the problem keeps occurring.  Can you isolate the effect/transition or whatever it is that causes this problem?  Or is there not one particular step you take that leads to it?

Perhaps we need to take a step back and examine the project as it is when it does open and run properly.  How many tracks are you using?  What is the format of the video files?  Do you use multiple effects/transitions or similar?  What about audio track(s), just those attached to video or are you using music and/or fx tracks as well?  What is the spec of your computer?  Which version of MEP?

The reason for the above is that I'm wondering whether MEP is "running out of resources" at the point where this message appears.  As I posted before, I have seen this message, maybe once or twice, and for me, the opening of an earlier back-up has always resolved it without further problem.

MEP and VPX are both pretty resource-hungry and I suspect, if those resources (CPU, RAM etc.) are running "low" at the time you attempt to save, that the save may not be completed properly.

Worst case scenario: you may need to consider completely uninstalling and reinstalling MEP.  For me, this process, though time-consuming and annoying, does seem to resolve such apparently "random" problems.

Hi Granta,

Following up Jeff's suggestion about resources, immediately after getting the error message try using Edit > Empty undo and cache memory.

Also, you might try File > Manage movies > New (keeping the problem movie open) and then copy/paste the entire project into the new one, delete the old, resave, and then re-open.

Granta,

Perhaps related... A friend who was having occasional resource problems how regularly does his editing on a chapter by chapter basis. Each eventual DVD chapter is dealt with a a separate MEP project and exported as MPEG etc. At the end each chapter clip is impoted into a new project. He might add some additional titles or audio that link the chapters when being played as a whole movie.

Thanks guys!  This place is a great resource for getting suggestions.  After reading Jeff's post, I opened up the Task Manager and discovered many, many open programs that were running in the background (I have a new computer with Windows 8 and it has been a major headache).  My project opened fine this morning.  Hopefully, it will keep on operating - I'll re-post after a couple more attempts.  Thanks again for all of the help!

Hi All,

Just an update - The problem still happens, although sporadically. I was able to open my project successfully this morning, bu had problems yesterday. I have been exporting the movie as an avi file as a precautionary move, which seems to be doing the trick, but it's still somewhat frustrating to have to do these extra steps. Every time I'm opening the project I keep my fingers crossed that it will open properly. At any rate, catastrophe averted. I'll be finished with this project within the next couple of weeks, and will then be starting a new project. It will be interesting to see how the next project works out. I'll keep posting to let you know. Thanks again for the suggestions. Your input is greatly appreciated!
