Just Installed--No Playback

reymax wrote on 9/11/2013, 5:04 PM

Hello, I'm new to this software (MEP 2013) and can't even get the demo program to go. It loads into the timeline but then, nothing. I have tried many of the system settings and nada.

I have Windows 7, an Intel i3 (3rd Gen), 3.2 Gig, 4 Megs RAM, 7200rpm HD, Intel HD graphics processor (onboard).

Picture looks nice, but I don't need a photograph. What's wrong here? I couldn't find an answer in the Video catagory for "playback".

Thanks.

The problem is probably with the onboard Intel HD graphics which may be insufficent for playback. I added a 1GB ATI 7750 card to my system and now have flawless playback with HD video. The card that it replaced could only display a still image. You could try updating your graphics drivers but I don't think it will help.

Hi

HAve you downloaded the free extras which includes the full demo project - the link is under Help, Free download...  you should then get the following dialog box

Select all options - the download could take a long while depending on yor Internet connection speed.

There should not be a need to add a graphics card at this time unless you experience other graphic issues.

Hi,

johnebaker may be right, and I hope he is, about not needing a dedicated graphics card but the demo project video is not very system taxing. Onboard video may be OK for some files (minimum system requirement) but if you have video that is high bit rate AVCHD 1920*1080 resolution (or HDV) then you may, in my experience, need a better card. The system requirements for HD video editing from the Magix site for Movie Edit Pro:

System requirements for HD and Stereo3D editing
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad-core processor with 2.83 GHz (Intel® Core™ i7 recommended) or
AMD® Quad-core processor with 2.8 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Graphics card: Dedicated graphics card with 512 MB VRAM or more

Hi

I agree with terrerad about needing a dedicatated graphics card IF, and only IF, the integrated card does not support CUDA (which it does not) or OpenCL (which it may do) either of these are required to get decent rendering speeds.

However I have found that the HDD bus speeds and configuration and the PCIe bus speed can be a bottleneck ie SATA 3 drives/bus and using a single hard drive is not as good or efficient as using 1 HDD for the OS another for the data and, as in my case, a SSD drive to render to and in my case the integrated graphics are much faster than having a seperate CUDA graphics card.

Hi

Try doing a program reset - File, Settings, Reset program to defaults - note you will lose any customised settings you have made.
