Jittery video

I have an older version of your video converter. I'm trying to copy old VHS tapes to digital. However its very jittery (impossibly so). I've checked the VHS player on a TV set and the tape is in good condition without the jittery effect. Is there a product you can recommend or is it my computer? I did do some conversions years ago but did not have this issue.

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums, so not a contact for any Magix staff, sorry, and the software is not ours.

Since you say the tape plays normally on your TV it would, indeed, seem that this is a problem created by your computer. However, can you describe in more detail what you mean by jittery?

How old is your version of Video Easy and which version of Windows are you running? Have you ensured the correct drivers are installed for the convertor you have? I believe the latest drivers can be downloaded from here.

"Rescue Your Video Tapes" is the current Magix software designed to allow you to digitise VHS tapes. You can find details of it here.

You may just have a poor tape; direct-to-TV sometimes does produce a leaner image. Does it look anything like these examples on my website? If so, you'll need a stabiliser of some type.

Export around a minute of the jittery video and attach it here so we can have a look.

It would pay to make sure you've got the latest driver for your dongle. Details here:

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
