Issues with super fast videos or delayed audios

rbritz1970 wrote on 7/25/2024, 2:56 PM

Using Magix Movie Studio 2024 and I am a new user of the software. I've tried twice now to create projects by stringing several made mp4's together. The first project made the first mp4 in the string run super fast, the second attempt made the audio delayed like you were watching a japense monster movie with english overlayed. What am I doing wrong as it just 2-5 videos put together?

@rbritz1970

Hi

The most likely problem is the source videos are encoded with a variable framerate.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

In the Video section of the analysis if you see this line:

Frame rate mode: Variable

then the videos need converting to Constant framerate with a conveter such as Handbrake or Avidemux, there is a tutorial on how to do this with Avidemux here - scroll down to the Convert a video to Constant Frame Rate section.

If the videos are Constant frame rate post the analysis in a comment so we can see what you are working with.

It would also help if we have the specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab  may help.

Individual MP4's don't have the problem, only when I try to place them in a project does either issue happen.

Hi

Thanks for the MediaInfo data.

What is the CPU model number in the laptop?

Does this speed up and out of sync audio during just timeline playback, or does an export to HEVC video file show the same issue(s)?

@rbritz1970 Hi, I don't know what 'Bitstream parsing' is apart from what Google tells me, I've never seen that in my GoPro11 videos or any videos to be honest 🤷‍♂️

This is one of mine

Does it matter what order you put the videos on the timeline, ie. is there one video that as soon as you import it it screws all the others up?

I'm running a I9 14500 CPU. As for the two issues, when you create the project and string the 5 videos together, each individual video plays correctly, transitioning to the next video within the project. When you export the project to MP4, and then play it, that is when either issue happens, I am new to the software, so I am expecting I'm doing something wrong. I just don't know why 5 MP4's work separately, but when combined into 1 large MP4, do i have these issues.

@rbritz1970 Hi, I don't know, I just exported a few GoPro11 5312x2988 59.94fps without problem using video as HEVC.

You could share that file/s on Google Drive if you want & we can try them, it'll tell you if we have the same problem?

@rbritz1970 , @Gid

The 'Bitstream parsing' error message would suggest the video stream was closed off incorrectly.

With Gid confirming that he does not get the error message, though from the MediaInfo data posted his camera was upside down (?), this should not make any difference, leads to more questions and testing.

Assuming the video was transferred directly from the camera to PC using Windows File Explorer, ie no GoPro or other 3rd party software was used, I suspect this maybe an 'in camera' issue:-

  • Is the memory card, that has been used in the GoPro, one of the brand, type, and speed recommended by GoPro, and can you replicate the same issue using another recommended memory card?

  • If you run the orginal video files through a video converter, such as Handbrake or Avidemux, 'converting' to HEVC (h.265), do they import/export correctly in Movie Studio?

Well I did find something interesting. I took the same 5 MP4 videos, created a new project, and instead of exporting out to MP4 again, I tried the HEVC option and this time the audio works perfectly. So now we have it narrowed down to the MP4 option as being the issue, though digging further is beyond my skill level.

Hi

. . . . was mounted to he windscreen of my van . . . .

A good use given the number of crazy drivers on the road. Last Friday saw 4 cars ' race' a red light at a very busy road junction, and the week before a police car, on an emergency, was t-boned at another, again a driver racing a red light.

@rbritz1970 Your MediaInfo says MP4 HEVC, all GoPro clips are MP4 HEVC, both AVC & HEVC are MP4. Google HEVC vs AVC.

I tried exporting my GoPro clips as AVC to see if that was your problem, the export took quite a while & the result was a garbled mess, this didn't surprise me too much but... , I then exported using the HEVC option & the result was quick & correct.

Gid, I guess I'm not following your last post. In your screen capture, that is the option I was using, the MPEG-4 option, and had the audio/video issues. I found a fix by using the HEVC option below the MPEG-4 option, and the issues went away. So I guess I just need to stick with HEVC with the software?

Gid wrote on 7/28/2024, 1:22 PM

@rbritz1970 Hi, I'm testing something at the moment, but yes stick to HEVC for your clips, you personally won't notice the difference,

This is your MP4 HEVC MediaInfo in the comment earlier

This is what an AVC MP4 would look like

Essentially they are the same, they are both MP4's but one is the old tried & tested AVC that works well with all software, the other is HEVC that is relatively new & some software still struggles a little bit with it.

AVC & HEVC are just ways in which the information from your camera is compressed to fit on a memory card. with cameras now creating bigger images like 4k those file sizes are bigger & so a new compressor was needed, HEVC is the new compressor, there's a lot more to it than that that's why i suggested Googling HEVC vs AVC but basically you're converting one to the other when you use Export - video as MPEG-4

I just exported 3 GoPro clips as MPEG-4, took about 5mins to export 3 clips adding up to a 40sec project.

this was the result, not as bad as one I dud yesterday but still not correct

This is what the orig looks like,

--------------------------------

I exported at HEVC that took less than a minute & the result is correct.

These are those three files if anyone wants to play with them, 573mb but took a few minutes to upload. GoPro11 5.3k 5312x2988 HEVC 8bit files,

Okay I'll stick with HEVC option then. Now to learn how to add a channel logo to the beginning of each project. Thank you all for the help in diagnosing this frustration.

@rbritz1970 👍

That would depend on if your 'logo' is just an overlayed image or a short intro clip. An overlayed logo is easy, a short intro clip might be better made using a project of it's own & then Merged to the current project whatever that is, you can keep that intro project to add to future videos. If you want help with that it might be better to start a new post.
