Issues with and confusion about Acid Pro 9

andrew-wilson wrote on 1/4/2020, 7:49 AM

I've been a user of Acid for many years now, but I really am beginning to lose patience with both the product and the company 'Magix'.

For a start I am pretty upset that I had to pay anything for my upgrade from Acid Pro 8 to Acid Pro 9. Acid Pro 8 was so bad, it never ran properly, crashed at least once literally every session I used it  and crashed so badly one time and lost all connections to my VST instruments that I effectively lost over six month's work overnight.

Acid Pro 8 was a disaster for me, so to have pay for an upgrade to Acid Pro 9 within less than two years seemed like a complete con. Unfortunately however, I really had no choice as Acid Pro 8 just did not work.

Now I have Acid Pro 9 which at least seems vaguely stable - I mean, it doesn't crash every session. However, apart from that there seems to be very little difference from Acid Pro 8, this version should never have been a paid for upgrade. What a con.

I also have some other issues with this version:

Where is the 'Vita lead synth' VST instrument? I don't seem to have this VSTi - it didn't seem to come with my upgrade copy of Acid Pro 9

What and where is 'analog synths 2'? All I have is 'analog synths' and that is exactly the same as the previous version.

Your website says 'ACID Pro 9 comes with a huge range of fresh loops' - where are these loops please?

What is zynaptiq® STEM MAKER and how do I access it? Is this only a feature of Acid Pro next and not Acid Pro 9?

Why has Acid Pro 9 installed a version of Melodyne that I cannot use? It asks for an activation code that I do not have. Is this yet another feature that only appears in Acid Pro next?

Why have you created Acid Pro Next? Why not put those features into Acid Pro 9? Are you trying phase out Acid Pro users and just concentrating on Acid Pro Next?

Sadly I am also very disappointed with the level of customer service from Magix, which has got consistently worse since Acid passed from the hands of Sony to where we are now. I doubt very much I'll get a useful answer to my questions above from anyone who actually works for Magix...

Let's see.

@andrew-wilson

Please be aware these are user to user forums, not a contact for Magix Support. From what you write I can completely understand your frustration but I doubt very much if you will receive any reply here from "anyone who actually works for Magix".

However, since you are a very recent purchaser of a still-supported software you are entitled to Free Support. Please use the Contact button in the footer of any forum page to contact either or both of the Sales and Technical Support teams to find the answers to your questions.

I realise this may not be what you want to hear but it is the only realistic option we, fellow-users, can offer you!

Edit: to add; wrt the instruments and loops that seem to be "missing", did you download and install ALL the additional content for the app?

About the differences between ACID Pro/NEXT/NEXT Suite, see the comparison table.

Melodyne is not part of ACID Pro.

Jeff - can you tell where I should post this? I want to make this a complaint to customer services.

Thanks for your help

browj2 - thanks for that. I wonder why Acid pro installed a useless copy of Melodyne then? No use having it without a serial number. I'll just uninstall it.

@andrew-wilson

I don't have ACID Pro 9, only 7 and I don't recall the installation procedure. However, with most Magix programs, you have to download and install the additional content - instruments, etc., available under Help, as Jeff mentioned.

Is that what you did?

Did you see a list of things to download with checkmarks beside them?

If so, was Melodyne unchecked but you checked it? This is the most likely reason for it being installed. You were not supposed to get it but you opted to.

The serial comes with your purchase - it will be in the email. Otherwise, it's just a trial. Cakewalk does the same thing. It's common.

If you asked nicely someone with extra serials probably would have just gifted you one. Many of us have multiple extras, because most DAW is bundling Melodyne Essential, now.

MAGIX is pretty clear on what ships with what SKU.

As for the Vita Solo Instruments, just go to the Samplitude forums. The Instrument Installer is linked there, and they will all work on ACID Pro. Just install all the ones you need or want.

Not sure why they limit what's bundled when any user can have all of them for free, anyways.

For plugins, install a Samplitude Pro Suite Trial and copy them to Acid Pro's MAGIX Plugins directory. They will all work. You don't even have to run Samplitude, and you can uninstall it immediately after copying them out.

Bundled I dependence Sampler Libraries also work.

Stem Maker is terrible, and that's the only reason to even consider buying anything beyond the "Base" SKU of ACID Pro.

MIDI Playable Chopper isn't worth. You can get samplers that do the same thing, better, for much cheaper than the upgrade cost from 8 to 9.

Hello, I'm currently using the latest version Acid Pro 9, my system is Windows 10 64 bit and 5 8th gen 16 gb ram, disk 250 gb ssd,Asio 4 all drivers, audio card built into the laptop.

I use VST 3 plugins from Waves and Brainvorx, I don't use built-in plugins in AP.Acid Pro 9 freezes, turns off automatically after adding 3 or 4 plugs on the Master bus. There is no stability or refinement in this regard. While the Beatmapper and other features have been improved, unfortunately there is now a problem with external plugins.

Does any programmer deal with this topic?

I see that people also have problems in AP10. That's why I don't want to upgrade the version I have and lose $ 99 again on a DAW that is no longer suitable for working with sound. It was supposed to be better, unfortunately it's getting worse.

There have been requests from many people to fine-tune the AP 8 and AP 9 versions, but I think that's nothing. Why are you adding Melodyne? Morp Pad? in AP 10? Who needs it?Why bridges up to 32 bit? With vst3 plugins? in these times? It seems to me that these remains of these old and unnecessary things spoil AP.Throw away these unnecessary things, improving the GUI because it crumble with Waves and other plugins.

Do something with improving the operation of the audio interfaces.Because there are problems.Or specify what the ideal computer specification must be for the current Acid Pro.Because compatibility and work requirements in Windows OS are not enough.

It is not stable and functional. In my opinion, definitely finish upgrading the old 32 bit technology and backwards.Do so as to have the best functionality in 64 bit and VST3.Without it, no one will take your work and what you offer seriously.

Let's see.

To simplify all and maybe to put your mind at some ease, I have been with acid pro since 1998 and moved on to Cubase back in 2008 after giving up on Acid pro due to issues. Sony ran it into the ground. But Magix finally took it over years later and I am sure, initially they probably felt that they made a terrible mistake but found a way to make as much as money as they could to cover the damage buying it. Now, if I was a company, this is what I would have done, too.

Unfortunately, you and I are in the same boat, continued to pay for upgrade but only to un-install it after few uses as we realize that it will just not work. Andrew said it correctly, Melodyne is useless in Acid. Just doesn't work. Maybe for some.

The synth recording/piano roll and use of synths still pre-dates world's fossil records. I tried and tried to get into the same mode I was in when I used Acid Pro heavily from 1998 to 2007 or so until I realized that it will just not do.

Now, your frustration is well understood. I would recommend, hold on to your money, stop spending on upgrades as I am up to latest version and I paid for every version since number one. I still didn't give up, continued to pay for version 8, 9 and now 10. And what I am using? FL STUDIO and Cubase.

You are not alone! I would definitely keep my options open. Magix is probably getting ready to upload another "upgrade" for another $100 bucks. I have given up on paying anymore until I am sure that they have completely fixed this once great DAW. Instead of fixing what was broken by Sony, they are just adding useless features that are only making this DAW more unstable.

I reply to many questions here with help just so users can stay with Acid so Magix doesn't do the same as Sony and throw it aside. I paid and I want to use it but unfortunately, I still can't.

Acid. It's a very good DAW and it's a shame to lose it.I use it since version 5. And over the years it also gave me a lot of joy and sometimes irritation, which is why I want to support him.I hope that the team from Magix will finally lead him on a straight path, because they did a lot in it as a plus.

The only team that can fix this is Sonic Foundry, the team that brought it to life. But they are long gone. RIP Acid Pro.
