Is there an equivalent to Camtasia's "Stitch" function?

When a video is trimmed the result is independent clips. Camtasia has a feature whereby two clips can be “stitched” together so that they act as one unit. This is different than grouping. For instance, stitching can be done sequentially at each seam and clips can be unstitched at any seam. Also, the volume curve becomes contiguous across stiches which is very convenient when fading across a two clips.

My issue that that when I am working on the volume curve on a clip deep in the timeline I occasionally move the clip when I try to click and drag a volume curve node. I then have to inspect the timeline to see whether I ended up overlapping clips. I am trying to find a way to prevent clips to the left of where I am editing from moving around – which would they would not do if they were “stitched.”

Grouping does not seem to be the answer because I can’t cumulatively add a new clip to an existing group. It appears that the groupings have a hierarchy and I and up with a group of subgroups.

Is there an alternative?

Hi

There is no 'stitching' option, an alternative to grouping is to lock the track - lock symbol left of the track while you adjust the volume levels and then unlock again - while locked an object cannot be moved.

Locked tracks does have some oddities eg if you lock the audio track of a video object then decide to delete it the object will be ungrouped and just the unlocked part deleted.

You can add objects to a locked track, however, you cannot move other objects out of the way until the track is unlocked - if you do drag/drop an object from the media pool it will be added however it will be on the next free track below the locked one.
