Is there a way to stop proxy render once dropped on a timeline.

I accidentally dropped a 4 hour video on my timeline and the system began to make it into a proxy file. At that moment, the cursor starts doing a circular (waiting thing)  It has bee an hour and is half done. I don't want to wait anymore- there is no way to pause?
