Is the "Upgrade" version the same as the regular version?

Hi. I do apologize as I see there are many many posts about Upgrading here already -- maybe too many! :p -- but I still could not manage to figure out the answer to a question I have.

Scenario:

I have an an upgrade offer for Music Maker which shows up as "Upgrade: Music Maker" in my online shopping cart.

Question:

  • Which of the following 2 cases is true?
    1. The software I would be purchasing here is different than the regular version in that it will check that I have an older version of Magix software installed on my machine before starting. Without a previous version of Magix already installed on the machine, the above version will not install.
    2. The software I am purchasing is exactly the same as the regular version. Because I logged in to my account, Magix already knows who I am and that I own a previous version, and the name of the item is "Upgrade: Music Maker" only because it represents the special price they are willing to offer me as an owner of a previous version, not because the software is any different at all.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Please read some of the more recent of my replies about Music Maker.

There is only 1 Version of the program and it is Free, for everyone. You purchase Editions, not the program. You have to have the program in order to enable an Edition, if you decide to purchase an Edition. Consult the comparison table on Magix.com. If you already have an older Edition, say, 2021 Premium Edition, when you log in (Join) in Music Maker 2022, it will detect this and tell you so. Please read my other comments.

Hi, thanks for your reply!

I'm not trying to upgrade from a Free Edition to a Premium Edition.

I'm trying to upgrade from like Music Maker 2021 to Music Maker 2022.

Because I have previously bought Music Maker, they are offering me a cheaper price to upgrade to the newer version. Clicking on the offer link, it shows up in my shopping cart as "Upgrade: Music Maker 2022 Premium Edition". Without clicking on the special offer link, I can add it to my shopping cart and it shows up as "Music Maker 2022 Premium Edition" at the non-special-offer-price.

I want to know if there is ANY difference in what I get between when is says "Upgrade: Music Maker 2022 Premium Edition" in the shopping cart and when it says "Music Maker 2022 Premium Edition" in the shopping cart.

Thank you.

Only the price. Normally, it is less expensive to Upgrade, the first case, rather than new, likely the second case. Do you see any difference in price? Do you see anywhere that you are being offered more, like additional plugins, for one or the other?

Also, I suggest that you first Upgrade to Music Maker 2022 (again, it's free - just download the free version), log in, and you will see your previous edition show up, and you will have many items under the Downloads tab to download and install. Before buying 2022 Premium, whether new or as an upgrade, check to make sure that MM2022 first works properly on your computer. If it does, then you can consider upgrading the Edition. If it does not, and there have been problem cases, then try to get it resolved before going any further. Worst case, you have to reinstall the previous version, but you're not out any money.

As for Premium, take the best offer.
