Is the MEP MX Pro Trial Version limited? Shortens all imported video

okstrawfan wrote on 8/26/2012, 11:03 PM

I downloaded Movie Edit Pro MX as a trial and am trying to import some AVIs into the timeline. When I do, they are shortened drastically. For example, a 12 minute clip is shortened to a little over a minute. Why?

Just tried again and the audio was messed up, too. Tried to right click and check the object properties and the program crashed.

I owned MEP 12 and loved it. It will not run on Win7 64-bit. Have tried trial versions twice over the last 3-4 years and have had nothing but trouble. Why has Magix video software gotten more problematic? They used to be wonderful. Program still looks the same, which I like, but it just doesn't work.

Hi

Have you updated the trial version to the latest patch 11.0.5.0 - if not do so there are some fixes in it that are necessary.

I suspect the avi files may also be the problem - this file format is not a video format but a container file format which can have any codec inside for encoding the video and sound.

Use GSpot to determine what is inside the avi file and check if you have the correct codecs installed.

Do not be misled by the fact that they play OK in Windows Media Player, MEP cannot use the WMP codecs as they do not appear to be available to other programs.

It would also help if you can give more detail on the source of the avi file and its resolution (GSpot will tell you the resolution.

Post back the results you get from GSpot and include a screen shot of the GSpot window after analysing the file (crop it so you only have the GSpot window)

John.

Not sure what I'm looking for with GSpot but here's a shot from the program after opening the file in question.

John's the resident expert, but I can't help but notice the lines:

Multipart Open DMl AVI (3 parts)
(21833 frames in first part, 0 frames follow)

21833 frames is about 12 minutes worth, and then there is no more to follow. Does this agree with your playback time?

I can do the maths but can offer no suggestion other than perhaps using a free video converter ('Super(C)' is often recommended) to create a new copy and see if it's better.

Hi

Unfortunately I did not receive notification of your post of the GSpot image so I missed it.

Looking at the GSpot results they suggest the video you have is in three parts and you only have part 1 - the other 2 parts have not been joined to make the complete clip.

What was the source of the video?

John
