Is step sequencer recording possible in Magix Music Maker?

Hi, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Magix Music Maker and have been experimenting with the different sounds. I want to create my own music by using a step sequencer to program the notes for each track step by step, but I don't see this feature anywhere. Does Music Maker include this feature, and how do I find it? Thanks

It is called the MIDI Editor - see the installed PDF manual available under Help on how to use.

I would also suggest you see the tutorial videos on getting started with Music Maker by @browj2 in the Tutorials section of the forum.

Thanks for your reply. Unless I'm mistaken, it seems like the MIDI editor can only be used for editing existing midi files/recordings, and cannot be opened or used to create music from scratch.

Not correct, I'm afraid!

Starting with a completely "empty" workscreen, select a (currently empty) track and right-click in the track. From the drop-down menu choose "Create a new object>Create new MIDI object". You will then be presented with various options, amongst which are several lengths of "Empty"; choose one, and an empty MIDI object will appear on the workscreen. Double-click on it and the blank MIDI Editor will open and you can start "writing".

Hi,

First, make sure to select an instrument.

To use the MIDI Editor, aka Piano Roll, you need to have a MIDI object. Other than what John EB mentioned, you can create a MIDI object by, first making sure that the track is armed for MIDI recording, and then pressing on Record. When you stop, you'll have a blank MIDI object. Double-click on it to open the MIDI Editor. You can make the MIDI object longer on the Arranger by dragging the right side towards the right.

Watch out for the Yellow range bar at the top of the Arranger, it loops.

Other rules:

1. If you use an external keyboard, turn it on before starting MMM. Make to select your keyboard as the Input device in the Program settings under the Audio/MIDI tab, and use an ASIO driver or the WASAPI driver.

2. You cannot use the keyboard at the bottom of an instrument screen for recording. Use the built-in Keyboard at the bottom of the main screen by clicking on the Keyboard tab. Check the instrument screen keyboard for any articulation keys highlighted in yellow.

3. MIDI volume is adjusted by Velocity in the MIDI Editor.

4. There is MIDI Step recording in the MIDI Editor by turning on the Steps button (two feet) at the right of the toolbar. Read up on how to use it.
