Is samplitude the replacement for music studio, and is version 14 compatible with Windows 7?

Hi.  I've been using music studio deluxe (2005) for years until my computer died and I had to get a new system that has windows 7.  I tried upgrading (somewhat) to music studio 12 to save money, but despite it appearing to install correctly (using the compatibility wizard & XP service pack 3 settings--vista settings wouldn't even start the program), it froze my computer and wouldn't run beyond the opening screen.  I even tried reinstalling it several times and always got the same result.

So, is Samplitude essentially the same as/better than the old music studio programs, and is Samplitude music studio 14 (which is going for a price I can afford) compatible with Windows 7?  I'm looking for a program geared toward recording instruments, vocals, etc./mixing/mastering, not a loop library like what music maker seems to be. I'd rather be sure the compatibility wizard will work than waste time and money again, so any help would be appreciated.

Music Studio changed its name for a brief time from version 15 on for the next 2 versions to Samplitude Producer.

Two versions were released under this nameplate which more represented the Pro Audio line of Magix, but this caused some confusion so I believe the next release for this line will revert its nameplate back to Music Studio or Samplitude Music Studio.

I do not beleieve any of the previous released Music Studio titles are Windows 7 compatible. I think Music Studio 14 was the last release to have been in a physical box, everything now is a direct download, so you wont find discounted prices as they have no inventory.

I suggest trying the trial of the current release. if you register it, you will get a 30 trial of the software...

Music Studio 14 works fine with Windows 7, you just have to right-click and Run As Administrator the installer directly from the DVD (the autorun doesn't escalate properly and bombs out).

From that point forward, everything works fine.  Don't need to do anything special beyond installing.
