Is it possible to remove noise sounds using just Movie Studio Suite?

SomeMan wrote on 1/26/2023, 8:05 PM

My question is about audio. I use AI voice files for the videos. Sometime noises are amplified and especially clicks (like firewood in a fire). Is it possible to remove these sounds using just Movie Studio Suite or I need to clean sound files separately using other programs?

@SomeMan

Movie Studio does have it's own noise reduction section that needs the user to supply a suitable 'noise print' to remove any background ambient noise but that is more difficult to do in practice than in theory. It is really useful to read the manual about how to use it. To open that section just left double click on any sound track you wish to use it on.

It would also be possible to add a suitable vst audio plugin to the Movie studio audio Mixer to use within Movie Studio but it would be up to the individual to find and buy such a plugin. Ideally it should be one that has an AI capable of separating such a basically pink noise background sound source.

Additional suitable vst plugins can be added to the mixer using the following button in the mixer's effects panel and after the vst plugin has been deposited into the correct folder or the location pointed to from within the program.

WhiteSea Studio on YouTube do reviews on such plugins if you want to do research into the subject.

Removing any sound cleanly from an already complete sound file is one of the most difficult and demanding things you can ask of any audio processing plugin and often ends in unsatisfactory results regardless of the methods used.

Hi,

Further to what Ray indicated, if it's an audio file, right-click and open it in the external audio editor, Music Editor 3, which you have. The cleaning tools there are slightly more sophisticated than in MS. If it's part of a video clip, see my tutorial on mixing down to be able to use the external audio editor.

I use Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 3 (4 doesn't work properly with VPX/MS, unfortunately) as my external audio editor. This is like Music Editor 3 but much more advanced with much better tools. The spectral cleaning is excellent for removing extraneous/sudden noises. There are also the DeNoiser, DeClicker/DeCrackler and DeHisser that come with, more advanced than ME3.

As for Ray's comments about the results of denoising, it's not difficult and the results can be quite good, depending on the severity of the problem. I use the deNoiser in VPX/MS in most of my videos to reduce background noise. I have made my own noiseprints for my usual cases, different mics in different surroundings.

For complex deNoising, Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 4 comes with SpectraLayers. Using it as a standalone can give you amazing results for complicated background noise.

It also comes with Izotope RX10 Repair assistant and it has given me some good deNoising results, as has Izotope RX-10 Voice Denoise. Unfortunately, these are VST3 and don't work with VPX/MS (VST2 only).

@SomeMan Hi.

@browj2 is quite right to pull me up on my comment about 'often ends in unsatisfactory results regardless of the methods used' as that is a personal subjective viewpoint based on my own personal experiences and results obtained to date and the results as I hear them through my audio chain of components.

Which is why I prefer to look for demonstration comparisons of such plugins to judge results for myself such as found on the White Sea Studio YouTube channel. His Snake oil section is the one to search for this.

When I use the same audio file for Movie Studio Suite and VEGAS Movie Studio, final video file from VEGAS Movie Studio sounds much better.

Why Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 4 doesn't work properly with VPX/MS if it is external audio editor?
