Interrupted download on Movie Studio 2023 suite due to lack of space

JMB21 wrote on 11/7/2022, 6:56 PM

I just bought Magix Movie Studio 2023 Suite (version 22.0.3.165) and was downloading the files to my PC. The download stopped at some point when it said I had inadquate space on the C: drive. Can I uninstall the program from C and save it instead on my external hard drive? What do I need to do to accomplish this now that part of the program is already on the C drive? And will the program work if it's not residing on the computer itself? As you can tell, I'm not particularly computer savvy, so any layman's explanation of help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

@JMB21

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

By default, Magix programs are installed on your C:\ drive, but there is an option screen which appears very near the beginning of the actual installation process, i.e., after the download has finished, which offers the user the option to choose a different location. I have all my Magix programs on my D:\ drive but it is an internal, not external hard drive. It is not a good idea to install any program to an external drive since, assuming it is connected via USB it is possible for this to become unplugged or even for Windows to turn it off, on the pretext of saving power!

If you do not have a second internal drive you need to very seriously look into moving/removing any apps which are not regularly used and any data files which can be moved to your external drive. Only after you have done this should you consider attempting again to install MMS 2023! (The general advice offered here is that at least 25% of the free space on your C:\ drive should be left "unused".)

If you are able to free up space on your C:\ drive you should be able to proceed as follows. However, what is not clear from your post is whether the download had completed and the actual installation had begun. I suspect the latter had not actually started since the installer checks for disc space before it begins. If you go to C:\Users\{your user name}\Documents\MAGIX downloads\Installationsmanager you should find the actual installer file. If so, you can choose to run it again, but this time check carefully each screen that appears.

If the installer file is not there you will need to redownload the Download Manager (from the link in your purchase confirmation email) and restart the process!

If you are not able to free up space on your C:\ drive and cannot install a second hard drive you will need to consider getting a larger C:\ drive for your computer (might well be a problem if you have a laptop and you will have all the fun of transferring existing programs etc. to the new drive) or a new computer!
