Instruments missing after upgrade?

TheDoctorArtist wrote on 1/6/2021, 8:37 PM

Hello there, MAGIX users. I'm here to ask a particular question, probably an issue that's happened to some of you.

I had some issues with my old MAGIX Music Maker Premium 2020, Version 29.0.4.25, and so I decided on a fresh restart. Uninstalled it, reinstalled 2020, and updated that yet again.

Here I am, my day off, ready to meander through the program once more, and as I start setting up instrument layers, I notice I'm missing particular instruments. Before you say it, yes I did go to the "download" tab and reinstalled what popped up there. I went into folders, found that the ones I'm missing show up in the old folder, but aren't actively showing up in the new one. Even tried copying and pasting. Nothing.

Now, here's where I'm starting to get irritated. The ones that still show up in the folders but aren't active in the program are as follows:

  • Accordion
  • Choir
  • Cinematic Synth
  • Concert Grand (Folder says "Concert Grand LE")
  • Drum Engine
  • Folk
  • Jazz Drums

I'd very much like to know why I can't access these instruments now, when I had the exact same version of this program and they all showed up without issue before I uninstalled/reinstalled. Most offer me to buy them again at $29.99, but if they're already on my computer and I used them before...I'm not exactly willing to re-purchase them when they worked fine before.

Note: I purchased MMM Plus 2020 as my first bought Music Maker, then upgraded to Premium during a sale. I did not upgrade from a previous numbered version (e.g. 2019, 2018, etc.) I have also done a reinstall before, and this issue had not happened during that second launch.

Hi

Well that gets the first question out of the way.

Assuming the Instruments are in the correct folder for the re-install - which sounds like you have chosen a different location for the program to be installed to.

Have you logged out of the Store, restarted Music Maker and logged back in again? This should fix the issue.

@TheDoctorArtist

And did you activate any and all serial numbers in this new installation?

Hello!

I can second this one! Missing ALL my VST-plugins, tried to repath and all the tricks as other posts mentions above. Missing Bass Machine, DN-e1, Drum Engine, Freedrum Rock, Space Pad, Tiny Percussion Barrel, Tiny Percussion Congas, Revolta 2 and some Vita Samplers. I can download bought ones, it scans VST-plugins, and seems to take it as active, but nothing appears. It's like everything is gone. Those are also not reappearing in shop.

I indeed logged out of the Store, restarted MM and logged back in. Sadly it didn't fix this issue. Although I wonder about having different location for program to be installed. Hm? Unless I am really missing something obvious, which I simply don't get it. Hopefully it is that only.

Using W10 64-bit as OS, Premium Version 2021

@UM21

See my previous post. And after activating all previous serial numbers, did you download and install everything under Downloads?

If so, under Program Settings, General options, Clean up Store. It will restart and you will have to log in.

The OP is using MMM2020, 32 bit program. You are using 2021, 64 bit program. They are not the same.

I did all of those... It doesn't matter really because I went on clean install and cleared all data, cache and cleaned up registry keys. Fresh download from site, install and log in... And it works!

The issue was with my side. Thanks for replies anyway.

I'm so sorry I wasn't able to get back to this post in time. Work had gotten a bit drastic, and I know all of you have busy lives as well, so still, thank you for helping me out with these issues.

To address the replies:

  • "johnebaker" mentioned the following:

Unfortunately, this did not fix the issue. Upon logging out, rebooting, and signing back in again, nothing had changed. Although it did mention there's a few instrument sales going on, 9-ish bucks on, might take advantage of that.

  • "browj2" asked this interesting question:

And did you activate any and all serial numbers in this new installation?

I...actually did no such thing, actually. I didn't think to do so, as I don't remember being prompted to do so last time. I just went onto my account and redownloaded from there. If I were to input any serial numbers, would that fix the issue? Although, when I do have that option, it prompts me for a serial for the 2021 version, when I own the 2020 and it had upgraded me to 2021. If this could help somehow though, let me know!

Ah, but one thing that keeps getting thrown around is "clean install" this, "different location" that...and that is a point I probably should have mentioned and indeed could be the key to all of this.
My previous installation was on Disc "C". I reinstalled on Disc "F". To save space, of course. I hate to sound dumb, but would that be the issue? And to further sound ignorant, I'm really sorry about that, but copying and pasting the instruments I've previously had and used with no issue, would that fix anything?

@TheDoctorArtist

Hi

There could be two issues here:

. . . . I reinstalled on Disc "F". . . .

Is this a USB external hard drive or a fixed internal drive?

. . . . it prompts me for a serial for the 2021 version, when I own the 2020 . . . .

That means you have upgraded MMM 2020 to MMM 2021 which is the new 64 bit version and it has picked up the serial number for the MMM 2020 (32 bit) serial number. This means that only the 32 bit Instruments are available to it and a great deal of functionality is missing.

Assuming you do not want MMM 2021 - which you must pay the Upgrade price for to get a new serial number as it is in effect a different program from MMM 2020.

I would suggest you download, install Revo Uninstaller (freeware) and use it to uninstall Music Maker and then run the scans and delete the files/folders and registry fragments left behind.

Reinstall Music Maker 2020, to your C: drive if F: is a USB drive, activate with your MMM 2020 serial number, check for updates - but do not upgrade to MMM 2021 if the update message states the upgrade version number as 29.0.x.x - MMM 2020 is version 28.0.x.x, and re-install all the Extra Content - if you elected to leave this in the installation folder during the previous install it will be installed without being downloaded again.

@johnebaker,

Is this a USB external hard drive or a fixed internal drive?

Disc F is a fixed internal drive that's been on the computer this whole time. Basically, C is an SSD, but a much smaller one. Running out of space too fast on that one and had plenty of space on the other, so that's why I switched to that drive for a new installation.

That means you have upgraded MMM 2020 to MMM 2021 which is the new 64 bit version and it has picked up the serial number for the MMM 2020 (32 bit) serial number. This means that only the 32 bit Instruments are available to it and a great deal of functionality is missing.

...holy moly, I actually did not take this into consideration one bit. I stopped typing completely to follow those steps. Installed that uninstalled (wicked program by the way), basically wiped everything on my computer having to do with MAGIX except my projects of course, reinstalled MMM2020, and what do you know? Everything worked out fine! Every instrument I listed above as "missing" are right back where they're supposed to be. No issues, no hangups, nothing.

Thank you very much! Marking your solution as, well, the solution, so other people can see what to do if they have the same issue. Again, I didn't know that it was such a difference as 32-bit/64-bit being the issue, but it totally was, and I definitely learned a little bit today.

Thanks again!
