installation of Magix edit pro 2021 premium on second computer

fergie wrote on 6/23/2023, 12:50 PM

Hi, I installed MM 2021 premium on my desktop PC with windows 10, 2 years ago . I am now trying to install it on my laptop which has windows 11. It looks like it is installing to a certain point but the programme is not on my commuter. Magix say you can install the programme on two different computers. Does anybody know what the problem might be

thanks. Fergus

Hi, I haven't got W11 but log into your Magix account & check you only have one activated, no:2 should say Not in Use or show your PC..

This is the GB site, you might have to find your own countries page https://www.magix.com/gb/

@fergie Just download and install the software on the second machine. Enter your product serialnumber and email address in the startup screen and confirm and the software will do the unlock. If there is the need to remove a computer which was used before it will ask for and guide you. But in your case it seems not to be necessary.

Thank you for your reply. I go to my account, click on installation programme, click on start download, then select files comes up, I click magix movie edit pro premium, then continue, then it says please wait until the installation components are downloaded completely, preparing files for installation, it looks like it's installing but nothing happens. Nor do i get asked for serial number or anything. I have installed test version of magix movie studio premium with no problems. Not sure what I can do.

Have you installed the actual programme or have you just downloaded the file and not clicked on it yet? (as I recall, the website sometimes downloads the installation file first, won't necessarily install the programme directly from the site itself.) You should check your downloads folder (or wherever your downloads are set to go) and click the installation file in there if you haven't already.

Possible you have already done that, and have some other problem, if so you should check in Program Files/Magix and see if it has actually been installed. Possible it is installed but just no shortcut on desktop, if so you can manually send the link to your desktop from in there.

The magix file is in my downlead folder. I click on that and it looks like it's going to instal but the same thing happens. I downloaded the trial version movie edit 20023 and that's in my programme files, but not 2021. it nearly installs but something is preventing it. Could it be something to do with windows 11?

Ah OK, you've been doing the right things then, important to rule out the obvious! so you do seem to have an issue. It could indeed be related to Windows 11, I am still on 10 so can't help much on that (someone else prob can) there have been other threads where people couldn't install due to anti-virus blocking or whatever... Which may also be built in to 11.

One thing I wondered is if having the NEWER version of MEP is causing the issue? I didn't realise that was part of the equation. You have 23, but are trying to go back to 21, essentially. Like when you try to install something using iLok, if the installer detects a newer version of iLok on the system then it ceases to install the older version from the prog being added.

Dunno if the install is maybe cutting out as it detects the newer version? Again, dunno, could be Windows 11 compatibility as you suspect, but good luck!

fergie wrote on 6/24/2023, 7:35 AM

I trie to install 2021 version many times. When it wouldn't instal that's when I installed the test version of movie edit 2023 which had no problems installing. So that can't be blocking the installation. Magix should make it very clear of what's happening. It shouldn't be complicated to install the programme on a second computer. Thanks for your help.

Hi.

Have you read this support article regarding reloading an earlier version?

Try deleting all the folders on the list and try again.

Also I suggest when the download manager pop-up box comes up you right click it and 'Run' or 'install' as administrator'.

Thanks ray. It's a new laptop, Magix was the first install on it and it didn't work. Did what you suggested, right clicked and ran as administrator, but it gets about half way and stops, up to the point of choosing a language. Looks like no luck with this one. Thanks for your help.

Hi Fergie.

Are you also running any antivirus program apart from Windows defender?

If so try turning that off during the downloading of the program. You can normally do that by right clicking on the appropriate icon for the antivirus program.

Sometimes an antivirus program will think some types of downloads are 'suspicious' and stop a download at exactly the same point each time.

Sometimes even the Windows defender can get over enthusiastic.

Ray.

Hi ray, I done what you advised, disabled Norton AntiVirus software, tried to install MME 2021 again, same happens, stops at the same point. I installed the test version of MME 2023 with no problems. With advancements in technology MME 2021 should tell you why it won't install. Thanks for your help.

Strange. Maybe a lock by anti virus software?

Maybe you can start it directly from the download folder which you'll find here:

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager

You can delete the file there also if it is maybe corrupt so that the download manager will download it again.

Hi

. . . . Had a windows 11 update . . . Have not got a clue how this happened . . . .

A Windows update in progress, or pending completion by restarting the computer, can block programs being installed.
