I video taped a grade school play. There were long periods where different kids moved to the stage. Not knowing if something cute would happen, I left the camera running for the entire period. I like to work in the Timeline mode. I am a novice at this so I need some detailed instructions on how to remove sections of the tape.
I am using a laptop PC running Windows 7 and Movie Edit Pro 16.

A quick way is to position the timeline marker where you want the first cut then press T on the keyboard.
Reposition the cursor for the second cut and press D . This will cut the section and close the gap.
Reading the installed pdf manual will give you a lot more info on how to use the software - you can find by clicking the windows Start button, Programs, Magix, Movie Edit Pro, Documentation

An alternative to John's suggestion is to use the [T] key to make cuts at both ends and then select the middle bit and hit [Ctrl]+[Del] to remove and close the gap.
I'd suggest using 'Help' from the top menu and search for 'cut'. I've not got MEP 16 but older and newer versions give well illustrated examples like 'Cut out scenes that can't be used' or 'Removing unusable scenes'. There are also special 'Trimmer' facilities available -- check for them in the documentation as well.

It could be that your keyboard assignments are different. You can find these under File, Settings, Keyboard (IIRC).
The only thing I forgot to mention is that the video clip must be selected otherwise any object on tracks above or below the position of the timeline cursor will get also get cut.

Place the cursor at the start of the unwanted part and click the down arrow by the razor blade. The first option is 'split'. Click that and the movie will be cut at the cursor point, (just as if you had actually cut it with a razor).
Move the cursor to the end of the unwanted footage and do the same again.
If you now select the unwanted part you can easily delete it.
If you make a mistake CTRL+Z will undo it.
