Importing video clips

William-Potter wrote on 12/23/2022, 10:55 AM

I have just downloaded and installed Movie Studio 2023 Suite (22.0.03.167) with all available add-on features.

While drag and dropping my first MP4 video clip I was asked if I wanted to download and install a codec. I'm sorry I did not note the details before agreeing to the installation. The MP4 clip loaded but only the sound plays. There is no video.

I have since tried with other clips but without success. Some of the clips gave a message about requiring Quicktime but I do not want to install that on this PC.

I assume at the moment I have missed some simple but vital step. Please help me to get the video from my clips.

I am running on this system:

@William-Potter

Hi William and welcome to the user to user support forums.

First try changing the program settings in the device section for Import, Processing, and export all to CPU.

Unfortunately your graphics card does not support Direct X 11.1 and there are no new drivers available for your nvidia card as nvidia dropped support for Kepler based GPUs some time back. So I think you are going to have to rely on CPU processing power to show video within the program if that will work with your  Intel Core i7 4770 which may depend on the resolution of your video files. If it still doesn't work then you will need to contact Magix support which you can do by going to the top of this page and looking at the SUPPORT section. Scroll down that page to find the support link.

As it is the holiday season though you may not get a reply until late next week. Normally it is four working days or just over.

As for installing QuickTime. You don't have to install the whole application, just the codec for the mov file format or you will not be able to import mov files as Mov is an Apple based codec wrapper and not a native Windows codec wrapper.

If you don't want to install QuickTime itself then do an internet search for the QuickTime alternative which should also work.

The third alternative is to install something like Handbrake (free download) and change the mov files to MP4.

Thank you u/CubeAce. That tip fixed the problem. I freely confess that without your help I would have been a long time in finding that myself.

@William-Potter

No Problem.

I'm just glad you have it working.

@William-Potter

Hi

It may be possible to get some Hardware Acceleration from the Intel HD4600 integrated GPU in the processor, if it is avaialble, ie the GTX 760 has not disabled it.

As @CubeAce has commented this depends on the format of the video you are importing, ie if it is MP4 h.264 (AVC) encoded video or Quicktime format, with Quicktime installed and a resolution no higher than FullHD ie 1920 x 1080.

. . . . Unfortunately your graphics card does not support Direct X 11.1 . . . .

The HD4600 iGPU does support DirectX12 (at the 11.1 level) however if you have the latest drivers for this GPU DirectX12 will have been disabled.

See this Intel article and if you wish to try using the HD4600 then follow the instructions in the article to roll back the driver version.
