Importing Video and Change in Frame Rate

MasterShifu wrote on 10/15/2016, 7:33 PM

Hi all,

A newbie here and hence pardon my ignorance if any. When I import the file into "movie edit pro 17 plus " the frame rate changes drastically. Below are the original file details. The original file plays smoothly on my computer, but once imported the frame rate falls to 6 and the audio and video goes out of sync. The video lags and is no more smooth. How to import as per original file settings and in same effect? Looking forward to hearing from all

duration                    : 24s 683ms
Source duration             : 24s 717ms
Bit rate                    : 10.5 Mbps
Width                       : 1 280 pixels
Height                      : 720 pixels
Display aspect ratio        : 16:9
Frame rate mode             : Variable
Frame rate                  : 29.858 fps
Minimum frame rate          : 6.467 fps
Maximum frame rate          : 30.120 fps

I am working on my basic laptop running on Windows 7 Ultimate.

MasterShifu,

I've not seen a clip with "Variable" frame fate that I can remember. What is the file type -- mpg, mp4, mov etc?Others may soon have more specific suggeests but you might try:

1. Different options when you first load your clip. Do you get a prompt like that above?

2. Exporting the full unedited clip and then continuing editing with this hopefully better behaved copy. Most all file types have a number of options to try, either on the main page or following the 'Advanced" link. Best not to change the 1280x720 resolution!

Hope this is some help,

Regards,

Carl

MEP 17 is quite old and does not support variable frame rates. You need to upgrade to a more recent version of the software.

Thanks Carl. The format is .mov file -  from my NIKON Camera. I have seen both these alert/suggestion boxes and have tried both  to adjust and not to adjust  as per the software settings. The result remains the same.

On the second point, yes it is  the orginal unedited file which I am working on.

Hi

Frame rate mode             : Variable
Frame rate                  : 29.858 fps
Minimum frame rate          : 6.467 fps

That is your problem - MEP 17 will drop to the lowest framerate in the video because it does not support variable framerates.

As Markus73 has said you need to upgrade to a newer version of MEP to get variable framerate support.

It is also a advisable to avoid using variable framerate video because it can introduce errors with the audio - in particular lip syncing - the audio and video become 'seperated' such that one is behind the other..
