Importing MP4 video file - Error 0x1009: end of file reached

burzykowski.daniel wrote on 3/28/2016, 4:32 PM

Dear users,

I am trying to import a gameplay recorded via XSplit Gamecaster. Previous one I recorder works pefectly and I used the same settings here.

Unluckily, this time MAGIX doesn't let me import the file. What might be the cause? I imported bigger files before and everything was okay. Now it's stuck.

It says: Error 0x1009: end of file reached

Thanks for any advices!

Hi

The most common reason for this is that the MP4 file is damaged.

Alternatively if the video file is an odd framerate or variable framerate them MEP may not be able to read it correctly.  Use MediaInfo to analyse the file and determine if the framerate is fixed or variable.

There are many mp4 repair tools for fixing End of File errors or converting the video to fixed framerate available on the Internet.

Not having any experience of them, I will not recommend one, should you choose to use one then you do so at your own risk.

Thanks alot John. I will try it right after I come back home after work. Do you think it's possible because game I recorded couldn't handle stable 60fps and I recorded it via XSplit with 60FPS settings?

Hi

. . . . Do you think it's possible because game I recorded couldn't handle stable 60fps and I recorded it via XSplit with 60FPS settings? . . . .

If the software cannot capture at a stable framerate then, depending on the design of the capture program is, it will either drop to a lower framerate or drop frames completely.  You may have the option to select which in the programs settings.

Dropping to a lower framerate after starting, at for example 60fps, should give you a variable framerate video file.  This is what I suspect may have happened.

Dropping frames should maintain a consistent framerate however the video will appear to jump where the frames were dropped.

Have you checked out XSplit's support area?

THis is what i've got from MediaInfo:

or if it doesn't work: http://imgur.com/pv0g0Od

Hi

Thanks for the details from MediaInfo

The video is variable framerate as shown below ( I have cropped the image for better readability).

The video needs converting to a fixed framerate - the variance between the min and max framerate is low and should convert to fixed framerate quite easily with little or no noticeable effect.

What's weird is that I did check all the previous videos I recorded, and they all had same "variable" frame rate mode, but still were able to be imported in MAGIX and worked perfectly fine in the program and as an exported file.

If I have to convert it, what soft would u suggest? Is it easy to do?

This just happened to me today -- 1st time ever (with current version of VPX); so reviving an old thread.

It's surely an unhelpful error message!

In my case, my frame rate is constant. When I downloaded my video from Vimeo, for whatever reason it didn't attach the .mp4 suffix. I manually added it and Windows recognized it as a Video file, and VLC player played it just fine. However, VPX wouldn't import it.

So, I used Bandicut to trim the beginning and end. It changes nothing else. Took like 20 seconds for the new, slightly shorter file. VPX accepted this newly minted .mp4 file.

Another approach I would try if needed (i.e. to change the file from variable frame to constant frame (not my issue, but apparently Daniel B's, above), is to use Handbrake to reencode the video. A much longer process. (Or to use Bandicut in it's re-encode mode).

@Craigster

Hi

The issue you are having is a different one to the OPs issue. Please create a new post with the issue you are having with the video and provide more information ie:

Computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab  would help.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

How did you download the video from Vimeo?

This topic will be closed.
