@Sumter-Hogan

Hi

What is the audio encoding format in the video file?

If you are not sure, download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips showing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

What is the program full name and version number as found under Help, About?

Well, I think that I've screwed up. I was trying to upgrade my Movie Studio 17.0 to the 2023 version and purchased the wrong product. Is there a way I can delete this product, get a credit and purchase Movie Movie Studio Platinum 2023 instead? I know that there is a price difference. I purchased Magix Studio Suite two days ago. I thought it was the upgrade to my Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum that I currently have installed in my PC. :-(

Hi,

I need more control over my timeline than what Magix Studio Suite offers.

I would be very surprised that there is something that you could not do in Magix Movie Studio for control over the timeline. You can edit to frame level.

What, exactly, do you need to do and we can perhaps guide you?

@Sumter-Hogan Hi, Movie Studio Platinum & Movie Studio Suite are the same program, the only difference is the Suite option has 'Extras' added in the purchase package such as NewBlue.

(Vegas) Movie Studio 17.0 is a totally different program to Magix Movie Studio, lots of people have been caught out by this deceptively unclear upgrade offer from Magix thinking they were upgrading their Vegas product, but ending up getting a totally different program, (Magix) Movie Studio.

(Vegas) Movie Studio 17.0 was bought by Magix & that's where the mix up happens, so if you want a more correct upgrade you'll need to buy Vegas Edit or Vegas Pro, it's owned by Magix & costs a bit more but it will look & perform just like your Movie Studio 17.0

PS I think you can upgrade to Vegas Edit, so you wouldn't have to pay the full purchase price, someone will point you in the right direction to get a refund for the Movie studio suite,

@Sumter-Hogan

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Before you uninstall the program you must first go to the program's help section and deactivate the program or go to your Magix account and log in and de-active the program there to make sure you do not have a working copy of the program on your drive. Do not just delete the program as it will leave traces of itself in you computers registry that may cause problems at a future date.

You can use the Windows Settings / Apps section and uninstall any relevant Magix Move Studio sections of the program from there.

In fact it is best to deactivate the program from your user account where there should also be a way to contact Magix directly and ask for a refund. Include the details of your purchase along with the request with the receipt details from your emails. Explain what happened and that you made the wrong upgrade and wish to upgrade to Movie Studio Edit. Normally they accept such requests and may also send you a link for the upgrade offer.

If they give you the refund but do not send you a link for the upgrade to Movie Studio Edit you can get the offer by resetting your current copy of Movie Studio 17. At present (This morning) on opening my copy of Movie Studio 17 I got this offer.

Follow that link for your purchase.

At present it is the only way to get that price upgrade offer if you can provide your purchase details of Movie Studio 17. All other offers on the website itself are for a higher price as upgrade offers no longer show for Vegas products.

Hi Gid.

I did spot the difference in versions but forgot to add that. Thanks for the correction 👍.

I am currently using Vegas Pro 18 and find that works just fine over my copy of VMS 16.

Is there that much difference between versions 19 and 20 to justify the price differences on the offers considering @Sumter-Hogan would be coming from VMS 17?

@CubeAce I'm sure there were changes but I wouldn't say there's much difference between 18 & 19, not to my eyes anyway, 20 tho has brought zoomable preview screen & better on screen control points, the old ones used to be no more than a small grey +, the new ones are bigger & brighter,

VP19, the centre + is hardly visible & the corners are almost impossible to grab,

Here I'm zoomed the screen out so you can see the corner points but even at 100% preview the corner points ca be grabbed

& they can be worked off screen

They've done some under the hood type stuff for crashing, stability & performance etc, but it seems everyone has differing opinions as to whether that's made any change or not, as always some say it's the most stable & some complain about it crashing, I'm sure there's a release note somewhere of the changes made 🤷‍♂️

Hi Gid.

That bundle offer has been up for a while now and extended once. I reported on it for the Samplitude offer so was aware of it. 👍🏻

Thanks for the update on changes. Vegas 18 is as stable as VPX 14 on my system but runs slightly slower in some circumstances.

I am currently using Vegas Pro 18 and find that works just fine over my copy of VMS 16.

Is there that much difference between versions 19 and 20

@CubeAce

I remember some of the changes that I thought were important:

From Vegas 18 to 19, Magix mainly added:

  • Speech to Text / Text to Speech (Subscription); Vegas Hub (Subscription, cloud service for team collaboration); Vegas Content (Subscription, something like Storyblocks);
  • Import Mocha Tracking Data;
  • AI Upscale OFX;
  • Automatic Scene Detection and Split;
  • AI Style Transfer OFX: allows users to input their own source for the style conversion;
  • Blackmagic RAW Support;
  • Optical Flow (Create frame interpolation to increase video FPS);
  • Color Grading feature's fine mouse movements and Color Keys number pad;
  • GL Transitions OFX (allows users to create their own transitions programmatically);
  • Full OFX Bezier Keyframe Curves (VP18 and previous versions are limited Bezier keyframe curves);
  • Upgrade to the latest OpenFX 1.5 API.

From Vegas 19 to 20, Magix mainly added:

  • File Drop & Automatic project collections & VEGAS Hub mobile app (Subscription, the new features for team cloud collaboration);
  • Support for VST3 format audio plug-in;
  • OFX Transition Progress : Control the progress of any OFX transition in the form of a Bezier curve to make it more easing, smooth;
  • Color Grading Feature upgrade :
  • Hue vs Saturation color curve,
  • Saturation vs Saturation color curve,
  • Hue vs Luminance color curve,
  • Saturation vs Luminance color curve,
  • Luminance vs Saturation color curve;
  • Zoomable preview: allows the preview window to zoom move freely like After Effects;
  • AI Smart Mask OFX: automatically creates masks for human, animals and other objects;
  • Support for ofxDrawSuite of OpenFX 1.5: allows OFX plug-ins to generate advanced overlay controls in Vegas preview window to adjust FX more directly and easily;
  • More for next build.

Performance and stability continue to be the biggest pain points of Vegas, compared to the VPX/MMS product line.

I'm new to this format. It's hard to follow the messages. The answer to my problem is that I wanted a professional editor and I purchased the wrong product. It's a great product, but I was trying to upgrade my current version of Movie Studio Platinum from version 17.0 to Movie Studio Platinum version 2023.

Sumter-Hogan wrote on 4/12/2023, 9:40 AM

Hopefully, I can get a credit towards the purchase of Movie Studio Platinum version 2023 as I have already deactivated and deleted "Studio". Can someone post a link where I can inquire about a refund?

Sumter-Hogan wrote on 4/12/2023, 9:56 AM

Thanks to all that have responded to this post. I have deactivated and deleted the software. I have contacted sales and requested a coupon towards the my purchase of the software that I really wanted. Thanks again.

@Sumter-Hogan

Hi.

There is no Vegas version of Movie Studio any more. It was dropped by the Vegas development team with your version of the product being the last one produced by the Vegas team. The nearest cost version of Vegas for you now would be Vegas Pro 20.

I'm not sure what you mean by professional editor though as the current Movie Studio as provided by Magix has way more features and options than Vegas Movie Studio provided although a few niche effects are missing and I have both Vegas Movie Studio 16 and a newer Magix version. Do not let the workflow differences fool you into thinking the Magix version of the program is less powerful.

Where the Magix products do have less options is in the export file format choices but if you are looking to export Dolby AC-3 surround sound, this is not longer supported by any Magix or Vegas product as licences have been withdrawn by Dolby labs for most video editing packages now due to royalty payment disputes.
