Import/Record problem from Digital source

Simon-Perry wrote on 3/7/2021, 1:53 PM

Using Sound forge Audio Cleaning Lab 2 (24.0.1.16[DP3]) on a Win 10 PC, some of my recordings from digital sources are being cut at the beginning and/or the end. I monitor the recording in process until I want to end it, and then click the stop button. Then, in response to the pop-up “Recording ended! Recording OK?” dialog box I click on “OK”, at which point my recording is quite often (but not always) “edited” by the software, removing material from either the beginning or then end, leaving me with an incomplete waveform audio track in the main window. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Running Windows 10 Pro version 2004 (OS Build 19041.804) 64-bit on Intel Core i7-9700 3.00GHz, 3000 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s), 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, 1 x 3TB internal HDD + 1 x 250GB internal SSD, Sound Blaster AE-7

@Simon-Perry

Hi

We need more information.

How much is 'cutoff' from the recordings?

. . . . digital sources . . . .

What are the 'digital sources'?

What is your computer specification -see this topic for details of what is required - please quote device names/numbers etc in full.

Apologies for my missing PC system information – I’ve now updated my Profile Signature to include this data. The problem I’ve described has arisen intermittently when recording (for personal use only) short (approx 3-minute) speech files from a well-known American online video-sharing platform. Could this have something to do with pauses (i.e. silence) between sentences, because I have not encountered the problem when I record other subjects, for example music? For illustration, here’s a link ( providing an instance of where, following the procedure set out in my first post, I consistently “lose” the beginning part of a recording – in this case, the first 61 seconds (everything prior to the guy’s sentence beginning “It is written in E minor....”) – with the same happening each time I attempt to record the audio.

As a work around, I’ve found I can re-record the missing section on its own, and then paste it at the front of my first attempt in order to complete the recording, but this clearly falls short of a genuine solution.
