Images & Video not appearing in my Media Pool

JayGee716 wrote on 11/24/2017, 3:17 PM

This is the first time I've encountered this. I'm using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2018 v 17.0.141 UDF(?). I'm working on a project which combines photos and video from our municipal family picnic. This quite a large project, for me anyway since this is only my second go with this software, with some 150 images and about 40 minutes of video.

My problem is that when I go to the Media Pool to import the files, there's nothing there. The path is johnj/onedrive/villagestuff/photos/2017/06-picnic. However, once I navigate OnePass, there's nothing there.

sMy OS i Windows 10 Pro 64-bit; 8 GB Ram, i5-6600K at stock speed (3.0 GB/s, 256 GB Samsung SSD, 2x2GB SATA, 1x3GB SATA HDD, ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Data Image

I can drag all the data into the timeline or other view but I can't import it through the program. Don't know if I should uninstall and reinstall or if there's something simpler. Thanks for any advice.

Hi

. . . . onedrive . . . . Don't know if I should uninstall and reinstall or if there's something simpler . . .

Assuming all your documents including the videos and images are on OneDrive then that is the problem.

Try copying all the video files and images down to a project folder on your PC. In MEP's settings, Folders tab set the top 6 items to your local machine change the default project file path in MEP to that folder and work from there.

IMHO, unless you actually require access to your documents from multiple devices using OneDrive is unnecessary.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Strange how it worked fine before.

@JayGee716

Looking at your third image, I don't see that you are in the correct folder. Look at the top of the Import window of each image and you will see the path. I see the correct path in the first two, but not the third.

@johnebaker

The files that are in the OneDrive folder should be on the computer and are available off-line. There should be no problem using them, although I have noticed a slight delay.

As well, MEP now is supposed to be able to handle files that are actually stored in the cloud, is it not? So one should be able to use files that are on the cloud. Note that Cloud Import has been added to the basic list by Magix. I am still getting the screen in German, even after the last update.

Hi

@browj2

The problem using 'the Cloud' is that despite there being a local folder, there are issues which can affect MEP/VPX's performance

Syncing

There are issues where this fails to sync correctly also see paragraph below on OneDrive terms and conditions.

Syncing speed

Although you may have, for example, a 100MB internet connection, most domestic cable and ADSL connections are asymmetric ie the '100Mb' speed is for download, IME typical upload speeds vary from 10 - 20% of the download speed

Considering the number of additional files MEP etc creates - if using the OneDrive folder the files are being synced 'live' there is the potential for a performance hit, eg when syncing a render.

OneDrive - Terms and Conditions

Other items which give me concern are sections 6b and 14i in the OneDrive Terms and Conditions

. . . . is supposed to be able to handle files that are actually stored in the cloud, is it not? . . . .

That depends on ones understanding of 'stored in the cloud' and the Cloud import option

The Cloud import is currently limited to Google Drive and actually downloads all the files to a folder on the PC for use. Unlike OneDrive there is (AFAICS) no live syncing.

Cloud storage has it uses, however, unless you are using multiple devices or working on collaboration projects where access is required to the same files, then (IMHO) it is unnecessary.

Windows 10 does not make it obvious that there are 2 types of accounts when setting up a user account.

@johnebaker

Hi John EB,

Thanks for clarifying.

Under Syncing Speed - Is there any way to have the temporary files created in other folders, like on the HD and not in the source folders?

AFAIK they are always created in the same folder as video/audio, or the AudioTemp folder.
