If you have no bugs at all using MMM, I would like to know your setup!

Hello all!

So here's the thing. I am experiencing many bugs with Music Maker, latest version. I've been in contact with support, but things are taking a long time, and for some problems, they are even thinking they won't be able to help me. MMM is basically very frustrating to use for me. Here are examples of things that I get:

  • ghost midi notes, inside midi editor or out, sometimes they just wont stop;
  • when exporting to any format, it will fail 50% of the time if not more; it creates an empty file, and program restarts
  • in some of my project, as soon as I save, the sound output becomes glitched; to fix it I can reload project, or toggle an audio output setting (and I save often because of all the bugs I experience with the program);
  • 3rd party VSTi's will play a first time, maybe a second time, then the track(s) of those VSTi's stop outputting sound as if they were muted; to fix this I have to reload the project
  • the program itself crashes often, and very randomly, doing just about ANY action

I'm still able to complete my projects, but it probably takes me more than twice the time because of all these bugs.

So I was wondering if anyone out there is NOT experiencing any of these problems. If that's you, then I would like you, if you don't mind of course, to post your hardware setup of your computer. Mostly what pertains to audio. For example, here is mine:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: AMD FX-8350
  • RAM: 16Gb
  • Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming
  • VGA: GTX 1060
  • Audio output: internal onboard chip, Realtek ALC1150 Codec

The goal would be for me to get an idea of what setups work well, and maybe plan to change what seems to be the culprit in my setup. Many thanks to all!

Hi

What is the version number of Windows 10 and Music Maker?

Taking your list in order:-

  1. . . . . ghost midi notes, . . . . sometimes they just wont stop; . . . . This is a known issue and has been reported to Magix - awaiting a fix. The notes will stop if you click the Stop button.

  2. Exporting issue - no problems seen here

  3. Sound output becomes glitched - I have the same audio chipset and have not seen this happen in MMM which Audio options are you using?

    I do get sound glitches occasionally in several other programs which suggests it is a Windows 10 or driver issue.

  4. 3rd party VSTi's - I suspect this is related to item 2 - I have not seen the issue - is it a particular 3rd party VST or all?

  5. the program itself freezes often - I have rarely seen this, do you hear or see anything else happening eg hard drive winding up, can you switch programs when it does this?

My computer specs are in my Signature

1. Yeah I read about it in other posts, it's been reported, and hopefully they are working on it, but it's been like that for a long time now. But I was wondering, as the goal of this post, if there was anyone who does NOT have this. I mean, surely not everyone has this problem, right? Right?? Because if everyone has this problem, it is absolutely inexcusable that it has not been fixed yet.

3. I usually use ASIO4ALL, or the Magix Low Latency as driver, default audio buffers, Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as output device. Input device is my Arturia midi controller.

4. Most, if not all 3rd party VSTi's do this.

5. Sorry, I meant to say *crashes* often, not freeze. It would then usually restart by itself immediately, or sometimes I have to restart it manually.

Your signature does not contain your specs. Your signature says: "Lateral thinking can get things done!"

@Vincent-Allain

Hi

Signature has been corrected - don't know why the info disappeared.

Item 3 - I have no issues with the WASAPI, Magix Low latency or Asio4All drivers.

Item 4 - can you name some VST's that do not work.

Item 5 - no crashes seen with the latest version here.

I get a few ghost notes in the midi editor and press stop again to stop them. I don't get the other problems so far. I use an external audio interface. I think internal soundcards and Music maker are not a good combination.

Vincent-Allain wrote on 2/18/2019, 6:50 AM

@johnebaker

VSTi's: Analog Lab 3, Redtron SE.

I also use 3rd party plugins for effects or mastering. I will usually use one or two in addition to Ozone 8 Elements, which are SPAN and FerricTDS. However, there are many more in that folder that are "seen" by MMM. Are they considered as being used, even when they are just "seen" by MMM, and not actually used?

@Graham-Hawker could you let me know which external interface you use exactly please?

@Vincent-Allain

Two things need to be clarified, I think!  Sometimes you write about VSTs and sometimes about VSTis. The former are "effects", the latter are "instruments". To which "variety" of VST does your question apply?

However, there are many more in that folder that are "seen" by MMM. Are they considered as being used, even when they are just "seen" by MMM, and not actually used?

As a general rule, if a VST or VSTi is "seen" by MM (and hence shown in a list in the program workscreen) it is "available to use" though will only be "used" if the user selects it and adds it to a track, clip, or whatever.

I'm using an old Edirol UA-1ex. the other thing I use is the FL Studio ASIO driver.

@emmrecs Thanks for the info. I'll go back on my posts and make them more clearer in that regard if needed. However, what I can add is that the 3rd party VSTi's have the problem described (the sounds of that specific track stops after a play or two).

For the 3rd party VST's (effets) that I'm using, I don't have a way to determine if they are causing a problem. One thing I can say is that I can use them without any problems, but I don't know if they are causing problems outside of when I'm actually using them (for example, when I'm exporting).

And last, thanks for the last bit about the list of VST's and VSTi's. I can then conclude that if I'm not actually using any 3rd party VST's or VSTi's, and that I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem, then the source will not be one of those 3rd party VST's or VSTi's.
