ID3 Tag Tab Under Customs Settings Hidden: Why??? (Also.....)

WillVader wrote on 10/6/2019, 10:15 AM

Something I've hated, having edited and processed, literally, THOUSANDS of tracks since first buying SF 4 way back when, is that I have to click on custom and then "ID3 Settings" in order to enter the metadata I want.

On. Every. Single. Track.

I set my encoding settings once and save them and that's it. I'm done with them, more or less.

But the meta data?

Every. Single. Track. Is. Different.

It may not seem like much but click on "custom" and then, instead of getting right to it, you have to cursor down to "ID3 Settings", click it and THEN proceed.

THOUSANDS of time.

So %@!(#& lame.

And speaking of pointless and frustrating:

I'm using SF12 now and am wondering what genius thought it was a good idea to get rid of the "Play from Start" button (The play icon with a line under) it that was SO handy!?

Did it really take up that much space?

Does the Pac Man vocal icon really get more use than "Play From Start" and isn't there enough screen real estate for both?

Does anyone know a hack to at least get that back??

I'd give my left frigging foot to have the ID3 Settings be the primary tab under "Custom..."

Seriously

Welcome @WillVaderto the SF discussion group.
Are you using Pro or Audio Studio? I'm not sure if the following is relevant to AS if that is what you use....Some of which is probably similar though

The MP3 ID3 metadata UI is the same as it was in SCS versions of SF Pro. When a large number of MP3 file IDs are needed, I use a third-party MP3 metadata utility.like MP3TAG

A "Play all" (aka, 'play from start') icon can be added to the toolbar if you so desire. View> Toolbars> Customize" The same goes for a custom keyboard shortcut. The default is "Shift + F12" or "Shift + Spacebar" (play), which also maintains the previous cursor position. If you wish to add a custom command, go to "Options> Customize Keyboard> Global"> Transport' and find "Play all" .. or enter "Play" in search. A separate full transport toolbar can be floated or docked in the Timeline window as well which has the I> (Play all) button. Also in "View> Toolbars"

Hiya

Pro. Since 98 or 99...?

I've looked at other tagging options but not that one. None have suited my needs.

Thanks.

It's just mind boggling that the minds behind this app, in 2 decades, never noticed:
"Huh.... the tab that people likely use WAY more often is nested under one that they'll use far less frequently...maybe we should change that?"

>;P

Apparently not.

Thanx for the tip on the (perhaps the same group of designers is to blame?) missing button and how to put it back.

I thought I'd be able to right click and modify. I have been using CTRL left arrow and CTRL SHFT S to playback from start but rather reminds me of the old Mac keyboard dances that I loathed.

lolz

That one was right up there with Micro$haft making the internet activity icon in Win 7 static.

Cheers!

So I installed it and gave it a look. Nice interface but I still will have to crawl into the tab to tag files as I don't like the idea of having a folder full of unnamed files waiting to be tagged in this app and no way to know what's what.
