I recorded 720 x 480 from a Sony HDR-FX7. Then in edit mode only angled lines play until I set movie to 720 x 479 .

What format are these captures in?

I use a Sony HDR-XR500, but I have not seen anything as you have mentioned.

In the program, is the video playback set as NTSC?
