I'm confused as to what software to upgrade to

I'm very confused. I've been using sony movie studio platinum 13 for years, it's excellent and I heavily rely on features such as keyframes, pan & crop, video effects like "Levels", and especially track motion. That software is not working with my new windows 11 laptop; and I can't figure out what I should upgrade to in order to get like-to-like features ***and backward compatiblity with the template projects I use (very important)***.

Should I go with (now Magix) movie studio? Should I go with Vegas Pro? If Vegas Pro can I upgrade, or do I have to buy it outright?

Any help is most appreciated.

@Mickey-Badalamenti

Hi

Given you want backwards compatibility and the same workflow you should be looking at the Vegas products Edit and Pro and have their own forum here.

Vegas Movie Studio (VMS) development was dropped by Vegas Creative Software a while ago, To fill the product gap Magix released Magix Movie Studio which was based on Movie Edit Pro and can import old VMS projects however it is limited to basic edits only. The 2 Magix products have been converged and rebadged to Magix Movie Studio earlier this year.

Thank you John. Sounds like I need to go the Vegas Pro route. Do you happen to know if I can purchase the Vegas upgrade if I have sony movie studio platinum 13, or do I have to purchase the $249 version?

Hi

For a more definite answer ask in the Vegas forum, the best answer I can give you is 'you should be able to'.
