I'm buying a new computer. What is a good one for using Music Maker premium 2014?

I'm buying a new computer. My Toshiba satellite laptop struggled with music maker 2014 even though it met all requirements of MM. I had a dell desk top that worked wonderfully well with magix. Can you recommend a system that will give the the best results using MM. Also desk top or lap top?

Hi

Recommending a computer is a difficult thing to do - there is too much personal preference involved - what would suit me for example may no suit you especially in laptops.

As far as recommendations go my specification would be as follows:

  • A well established brand laptop or desktop depending on how much you want to spend - if you intend to expand / upgrade in the future then a desktop..

  • Intel i5 quad core generation 4 or 5 processor (laptops very expensive)

  • At least 16GB of RAM

  • A 1 TB SATA 3 hard drive - not SSD

  • DVD / Bluray writer

  • As many USB 3 ports as possible - this is restrictive in a laptop..

In a desktop there is no need for an extra graphics card, the Intel i5 integrated one is excellent - unless you are an avid games player as well.

Thanks Johnebaker. What about sound card or graphics card? Anything I need to know here?

Hi

. . . . What about sound card or graphics card? . . .

Graphics card I have already mentioned in my previous post.

Sound card - most computers come with either Realtek HDA (High Definition Audio) audio or DTS HDA chipsets both support 5.1 surround sound and there is very little difference in the quality of the sound.

If you are intending to record vocals then I would recommend a good branded USB microphone rather then using the soundcard.  This reduces external interference which can occur near a computer or certain types of lighting with a 'analogue' microphone ie those with a 3.5 mm or 1/4" jack plug.
