I love you... but sometimes... ugh...

brian-hill wrote on 9/11/2018, 11:33 PM

I have to admit that I love using Magix. It's cheap, it's easy, and it's plenty of fun. But there have been many issues since the major update last week and this is just the most recent. Looking through some old projects that I was working on, not one month ago, since the update the projects have been ruined. I am missing loops (edited loops mind you, not just drag and drop loops) from parts of the song. Other loops are on the correct track but are out of place. The program suddenly crashes for no apparent reason (seriously, I'm just clicking through loops and it goes kaput). And I just spent an hour going through my soundpools and "starring" loops that I liked, the program crashed, and now all the tracks I've "liked" have been reset. I feel like the program is now "one step forward, two steps back."

I'm just venting is all. If I didn't pay anything for the software that would be one story, but after putting over $300 into it, I guess I just expect it to work better and get annoyed when it doesn't.

And just now, when I open the program, it prompts me to perform a major update. I literally just did this last week. Why is it telling me to do this again?

Hi,

I've just updated and I've noticed some of my loops are no longer available, they are listed as "acquired" in the shop but they are not in the list of loops to use. I have used the "download all purchased content" button, but they aren't there. However, they are available in my Magix 2014 program. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Russ

@russell-cross

Hi

In the new MMM select Help, Activate edition in the dialog that opens enter your MMM 2014 serial number in to the Activate older edition box and confirm.

Restart MMM, you should now have access to the Soundpools/loops that are in MMM 2014 but not in the new MMM - you may have to install them from the Store.

Thanks, but the missing soundpools have now re-appeared! Every time I use this program it's an adventure!

Cheers,

some Vendors , including Magix , have stated . "finish all projects before updating" . that is pretty much true for Any software . Games have been known to Break "Saved Games" . If you Patch , be prepared to start over . That is good advice from Magix . Or , re-install previous version if possible .

This is consumer software. Consumers should not be expected to adhere to Professional Workflows and Best Practices.

It's up to MAGIX to test their software and make sure that it doesn't break things across updates. It's actually not that difficult.

Don't pass the buck to the users. It's disingenuous, and shows a basic ignorance of the market this product is targeted to.

In an "ideal world" that would be fine, but given the number of PCs running various versions of Windows around the world, the different hardware and software configurations in use (I would speculate that very few users have identical hardware, software, etc., to even one other user somewhere in the world), how are Magix to ensure that any update will not cause problems for even one user? To write, as you do that

It's actually not that difficult

is to show some lack of understanding of the scale of the problem that all software manufacturers must face when releasing new or updated versions of their programs.

And then, there are always the infamous Windows Updates that can also "break" either or both of a user's computer or at least some of the software he/she runs!

It would seem to me that when broadly reported significant problems exist and when they are at the heart of operation of the software, the vendor must then assume a heightened level of responsibility for that situation. It is in everyone's interest, MAGIX has been around a long time, and I will assume that this is the case here as well. CEC
