I just upgraded to Magix Music Maker 2017 because my previous version just quit working. Should it be running so slow that I can't actually get anything done?

Anytime I try to zoom in or out on the clips it freezes the program for a long time. If I have more than one clip in any of the tracks (the same track end to end, or in multiple tracks) it will not scroll without freezing for long periods again.  I can manipulate the FX area fine without any breaks in performance.

I am running on an old work horse computer.

It's running on an Intel Core2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8Ghz with 4.0GB of RAM.  I did the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 Home version.  No other programs seem to have slowed down or become inoperable, it still runs Adobe CS4 programs fine.  Are there any settings I can change to make it run smoother? Is it just asking for resources in a way that is inefficient for my computer?  Should I try and get a downgrade to an older version of the program...I don't care what version I get as long as it works.  Again I was fine with probably the 2010 version or so, but just upgraded because it stopped working.

Any help would be great.

Hi

. . . . It's running on an Intel Core2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8Ghz with 4.0GB of RAM.  I did the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 Home version. . . . .

Running Windows 10 and Music Maker 2017 is asking a lot of the computer.

Did the old version Music Maker (2010?) stop working after the upgrade to Windows 10.  If so then the issue is with the Windows upgrade.

You can try re-installing following this procedure.  However there is no guarantee this will work if your version is from 2010 which will not be compatible with Windows 10.

The Windows system check in the above procedure, steps 3 to 11, may help a little with Music Maker 2017.

. . . . it still runs Adobe CS4 programs fine . . .

It will, CS4 was designed to run on computers of the same age as yours, requires less memory and resources then modern programs.

The older version did not immediately stop working with the upgrade to Windows 10.  It just stopped in the past couple months and I upgraded to Windows 10 early in the "adopt for free" period.

So if it is just that this version is too intense is there a way Magix can downgrade my copy to something that my computer can handle?

You can try putting your computer on high performance to do this simply right click on your battery symbol at the bottom right of your computer this will not limit your computer as it might be set to, however your computer might heaten up since its performing more. I would also suggest to clear up your desktop with only needded programs on it and putting the rest in your documents this will speed things up a bit. If these things don't work you can get an app which allows you to get rid of uneeded files and speeds up your computer I used 360 total security from the microsoft store which is free and it sped up my computer by twice as much getting all the junk files out. I had this problem also and this helped me.
