I have a cheapo Yamaha keyboard and I cant get it to midi into MM 2014

 The Yamaha keyboard is a...
    YPT 220 - http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalkeyboards/portable_keyboards/ypt-220/

I’ve been trying to get it into the PC via Tascam US-122 mk 2 (midi to USB) (very noisy unit) Once I go to program settings and set the ASIO driver to the Tascam - then it changes the "Audio Playback" to the Tascam - and as noisy as it is I get audio from the "phones" out on the tascam.
However - I still cant get the Yamaha to trigger the sounds in the MM 2014 program
I also have a simple Midi to USB converter - USB on one end - and "In & Out" on the other - it does have 3 lights on it - "Midi - Out - In - the only light that  lights up is the "In"

    Any suggestions would be helpful
    Thanks Dano"

Hi Dano,

I have an M-Audio M-Track that does the same thing as your Tascam. I haven't figured out the usefulness of the midi in/out ports. As far as I know, the M-Track only sends audio to the computer, not midi data but I could be wrong. I presume that your Tascam is the same. I would like like to know if the midi data actually goes through the USB port as well as the audio.

My Casio keyboard has a midi USB connection to the computer so I have not had the problem.

If you resolve it, please let me know how. I would like to know what the midi in/out is supposed to do.

Did you adjust the program settings (P) under Audio/Midi, on the midi side to pick up the Tascam?
