I cannot update Sound Forge Audio Studio 15 or 16, or Music Maker 2023

Spyda-Music-Productions wrote on 9/13/2022, 5:32 PM

Hi, I've been using S F Audio Studio 15 & the newer version S F Audio16, plus the new Music Maker 2023, on my PC running Windows 10 for quite a while without any recent issues.

However, I cannot update either program.

When the update page opens it is blank, nothing to read, or click on at all. I've uninstalled both programs & reinstalled them.

First SF 15 & the blank update section still appears. It is a blank white area where there should be at lease text, or buttons to click to update the programs.

After uninstalling 15 I have reinstalled SF Audio Studio 16 and exactly the same issue occurs - a blank area, no text, or buttons.

This has only happened since installing the brand new Music Maker 2023. Exactly the same problem happens in that too when trying to update.

Plus I get an error message - "Failed to create OpenGL context format QSurfaceFormat(version 2.0)" since installing the new program.

Further in this error message it states "Install a driver providing OpenGL2.0 or higher".

However, I have updated all Intel drivers and followed installation procedure from Intel support, but still get the error message.

I don't have much hair as it is & after 3 days of this I've got even less.

Please help, you will be added to my Christmas card list if your help works.

Thank you, Clive.

@Spyda-Music-Productions This sounds like your computer is not using graphic acceleration. This can happen if you use a laptop, connect an external monitor to it and then close the lid of the laptop. Windows will disable graphic acceleration to save energy. So, did you use a laptop with a closed lid?

Thanks for your prompt response SP. I am not using a laptop, these problms are on my main PC. Tonight I have found that the new Acid Pro 11 Suite that I bought just a few days ago, has the same blank area when trying to update it. I've updated my Windows 10 drivers & Intel HD Graphics drivers via Intel Support and I am still expreriencing the problems. It's extremely frustrating after spending such a lot of money. Cheers, Clive

@Spyda-Music-Productions Does your computer have a graphics card and is the screen connected to your graphics card or your mainboard? In this case, you would also need to check your graphics card drivers.

If you look in the Windows system information under components and display, there should be at least an Intel HD graphics device be listed.

Hi, yes it does have an Intel HD Graphics card and my PC is all set up correctly as my partner is a Siemens Fujistu IT Engineer but even he cannot get to the bottom of the problem. Thanks, Clive.

@Spyda-Music-Productions What does a tool like GPU-Z show you?

Hi Clive

You stated your Pc may be too old now, for others to help, could you state your Pc's hardware specs?

Eg; Cpu, Graphics card, memory etc, for example I have an Intel i5, 10th gen 2.9ghz, 16gb ram and RTX260 super.

Have you tried to temporarily disable your firewall, anti virus software including windows defender?

Your error: Failed to create OpenGL context for format QSurfaceFormat()

The graphics card may not support OpenGL version 2.1 or the higher versions, so can you please list your Pc specs.

Also try Right Clicking on CMD prompt icon and pick "Run as administrator" then use the command sfc scannow and restart Pc, see if that helps.

This will not fix the "OpenGL" issue, but you can update Sound Forge and the other Magix software if you can download the main installer from the Magix Service Center> My Products (or the Download Center) and reinstall. This will update the applications as well. In this case, do not uninstall until the installer dialog asks to.

I entered the serial number for the Acid 11 Pro Suite that I recently bought and got the message "invalid serial number". That is the same one that I registered the program with and have been using for almost a week, so that didn't work for that one. However, I am reinstalling Sound Forge Audio 16 from the download center as you suggested and hopefully that works. Thank you, I'll update you later. Cheers, Clive.

OK The program, Sound Forge Audio Studio 16 reinstalled, BUT now I'm getting the error message about OpenGl when that starts up. This DID NOT happen prior to tonites installation with any of the Sound Forge programs I've used. I am absolutely damned fed up, as now each piece of software I install appears to be going to give me the same error message! I've used Magix software since 2003 and NEVER had these problems until recently. My PC is updated and maintained by my partner who is a Fujitsu Siemens IT Engineer and he cannot fathom out how to rectify the Open Gl issue without buying a brand new graphics card. After spending a lot of money on software and soundpools over the past few months, this will be yet another expense.

I may add that I DO NOT have Open GL issues with any other music related softwares, or in fact ANY software on my Windows 10 PC, so believe this to be a Magix program issue only. However, other friends have told me they do not have this problem, so I'm stupified!

I have twice emailed support@magix.net with NO respons to date! .

However, I will continue with the reinstallation process you've suggested in the hope that at least the programs will be updated. Thank you kindly for your help, it is genuinely appreciated. Cheers, Clive.

got the message "invalid serial number".

@Spyda-Music-Productions, confirm you use the email address you used when it was registered and activated before. The activation serial code and the email address are paired so a different email address can also trigger the invalid serial error
If you still get the "invalid serial" error, email Magix Customer Service:

@Spyda-Music-Productions Thank you very much. Your processors shows, that it supports OpenGL 3.1, so it should be able to run an application that requires OpenGL 2.0. Im not sure if you have the newest drivers. I couldn't find a lot of information about it, but it looks like the Intel HD graphics don't support Windows 10. Maybe you were lucky it worked until recently. Could be caused by a Windows 10 update? But I'm not sure about this..

Spyda-Music-Productions wrote on 9/15/2022, 9:48 AM

I have updated all the drivers and now you've mentioned it Windows 10 was updated prior to all this happening and has updated again last nite. So it could be that. I knew my PC had relatively good specs for the software I use but it is only happening with all the new Magix software. No issues with Novation or Audacity etc. Thanks very much for trying to help. Take care Clive.

SP. wrote on 9/15/2022, 9:51 AM

@Spyda-Music-Productions I just read, that Intel HD Graphics is a limited version for Intel Pentium or Intel Celeron processors. Intel Core processors (like your Core i5) would use an Intel HD Graphics 2000 or 3000.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Graphics_Technology#Gen6_Architecture

I dont know if it is normal that it doesn't show a 2000 or 3000 in the name or if you have the wrong Intel drivers for your processor installed. This could be the case.

Yeah I've done the Intel support etc and had msg that my card doesn't support OpenGl which is confusing as up until last few days I've had no problem. I think everything happened after the Windows update. I'll have to buy a new PC I reckon, this one's had as many updates as it can take. A bit like me. Thanks loads for trying anyway. Cheers, Clive.

So, since my original post I am still unable to update all my Magix programs, BUT at least I now know the reason - my PC is just too damn old 😂 On my trusty laptop everything updated like a dream, so far! Thank you everyone who tried to help me, it was genuinely appreciated. Cheers, Clive.
