How to use Color Correction

hdrechsel18 wrote on 2/8/2013, 1:03 PM

What is it with the Color Correction effect? Every time I use it, my videos freeze up. They used to just bog down, but now the video stands still (freeze frame) - audio plays fine and continues. I've never found a way to make this effect work for me. Shouldn't be my system (Windows 7) (I guess?). Any clues on why this happens would be helpful Thanks.

Hi

We need more information :-

Your full computer spec and which version of Windows 7 - 32 or 64 bit.?

What is the format of the video ie mpg, mts HD etc ?

Which version of MEP and is it patched to the latest for that version?

John

Hi,

Color Correction is buggy IMO. See this thread for details of my own experience with it.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (just got the machine) i3, w/6GB. My old machine (XP) crashed on me, and Magix was good enough to restore my program: Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus. I'm currently working on a .MOV file, but I seem to have the same problem with MPEG-2. It's not a show stopper, but it used to "kinda" work with my old XP system, now the effect does nothing but freeze the video. Oddly, I can see the clip desaturate on the timeline, but not on the playback monitor. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Terry - I wasn't sure how to REPLY to these questions (newbie - hope I'm doing it right).

Your initial problems listed on the link are exactly what I'm experiencing - I forgot to mention another file - not even on the timeline - appearing in the monitor. Very strange.

Hi,

Yes, you're replying correctly, via the Answer button.

I recommend you send a problem description formally to Magix via the Support page. The more feedback they get the greater the chance of getting it patched - although I'm not holding my breath. The link I use is:

Meanwhile, did my suggested work-around of changing display mode fix the problem for you?

Hi

You have not given your full computer spec - see this post

What is your graphics card?

Try turning off the GPU acceleration for standard transitions on the Program Settings, Video/Audio tab if it is on.

Terry,

Sorry - didn't mean to be rude, I've been out of town and wanted to get back to you on this.

Since I got back, I bought Magix Pro X5 - thinking it might solve some of the problems, and/or be a better version. Well, the jury is still out on whether X5 is better than 2013 Plus. So far I haven't seen any bang for my buck. One of the attractions for me, was the new Noise Reduction feature (Nero?) - but being as PC challenged as I am, I haven't been able to figure it out (or where it is), and the Color Correction feature was still as useless as before (not to mention that the download link ended up in my Spam bucket - which took me forever to find), so I'm not thrilled with the expenditure yet.

On a sunnier note, I tried your suggestion (Video Mode = Overlay Mixer - which it defaulted to anyway), and then tried John's suggetion to turn off the GPU Acceleration. That seemed to do the trick - though there's still a few artifacts that seem to linger. Either way - once I know what I'm doing with this feature - it's working for what I was trying to do: which is the Color Pass effect (Sin City effect). Still a little quirky, but I hope to master that over time.

Again, being "PC challenged" I don't understand a lot of the things you were talking about in your link (or half the stuff I read here), but just wanted to say THANX (to you and John) for helping me out with this. Hopefully I'll feel better about X5 as well.
