How to restore a project backup in MEP Premium 16?

RossW wrote on 10/4/2016, 10:20 AM

I created a backup of my project using File > Backup copy >  Copy project and media into folder...

I can't figure out how to restore the backup. Judging by the content of the backup folder (a new folder, new file extensions and observing that files were pooled from differentdirectories) restoration does not appear to be as simple as copy/paste.

The only information that I found in th manual is on p. 224-225 and it leaves me wondering.

Hi

You can either:

Open the project in the backup folder  - not recommended if you want to keep the backup as insurance.

OR

Copy the backup folder to another location and open the project MVP file from there.

Well. That's too easy.

So the following that do not appear to be part of the project folder:

_originaldescriptions folder

.BCK file

.ini file

are not really needed?

Thanks.

Hi

Good question- not using this method of backing up projects and restoring them, looking at the files contents they are as follows:

_orginaldescriptions folder as this only contains the original .HDP  files - they could be deleted - see final paragraph below for a possible exception.

.BCK file is the .MVD file that is associated with a project - normally in the original poject folder you do not see this if the project name and movie names are the same.

ini file is used to initialise and hold the information of which files to copy and where they are to be placed - this is the first thing you see happening when you start the backup.

PerfBounce_******.mxv files - these are the rendered preview files for the videos in the project.

Without testing it, I think all these files may be required if you burned the backup folder to disc and then use the Backup restore from disc option.
