How to record/mix midi tracks played by microsoft gs wavetable synth?

crossan660 wrote on 11/11/2012, 8:35 AM

I have backing track software called chordpulse. I compose melodies with this and quite like the sounds it produces. I cannot import these files directly into my Magix 13 Premium as they are originally cps files but I can use the chordpulse option of saving them as midi files.

Even then I can only import them via Reaper. This is successful and the chordpulse tracks are imported into Magix and I can obtain the sound I want. The problem is that I then cannot export the tracks to a CD or Windows media player format. I believe its because the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is treated by Magix as an external synth.

I can make it work by giving every track a vst instrument but the sound is then completely changed from the one I want. How can I get the chordpulse midi tracks to be able to work with all the Magix export options.

The only hardware I have is Epipes (Technopipes Via a midi interface) and the midi recorded with that is just fine. I am using Windows XP Professional and Magix 2013 Premium (latest update installed)

The chordpulse software isChordpulse Version 2.2

I have struggled with this for a very long time and I can't find a solution.Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

Chordpulse has perhaps a self integrated VST. Why don't record the output of Chordpulse with an other program in a Wav file, and after importing this wav file in MMM?

Depending of your sound card, you can send the output of Chordpulse to the  input of your recording software.

Hi,

Thanks to you both for replying. I have managed to convert the Chordpulse midi files to Wav files but don't seem to have the option of connecting that output to my recording software input.

Can I change/add a diferent  soundcard to my laptop to be able to do the above or is there something I'm not doing correctly to solve the problem? I'm using a Dell D600 laptop operating on XP Professional.

Any more thoughts/comments will be gratefully received.

Hi,

In order to record the sound of Chordpulse into a Wav file you need to execute in parallel 2softwares :

1- a software which is able to record a sound played by your computer : MMM, Audacity etc... The concern is due to your soundcard. Your sound card must be able to assign the sound of Chordpulse  to a "recording port". In some basic sound chipset this input is called "What you hear" (translation from French). In MMM you have to select this recording input.

2- You start first  the recording software and press the record button and after Chordpulse. If you are in MMM you get directly a Wav file. If you use for instance AUdacity, you export the file as a Wav file and import  it on a track in MMM.

If you are keen of music and MMM you can invest in an external USB soundcard, it offers a better quality and a lot of facilities concerning the routing of the sound.

Hi there,

Thanks again for taking the time to help me. It's starting to make a bit of sense.

It does seem to be that the soundcard on my laptop cannot assign my data to a 'recording port'. In my MMM in the programme settings there is nothing I can select in the MIDI input selection, only the output as GS Wavetable Synth is available in the MMM Audio/MIDI.

I would quite happily invest in an external soundcard if that is the solution to my problem. Do you recommend any particular card and what kind of price do I need to spend on one? I have looked at various cards on the web that seem to range from £30 to £180. Is it a case of you get what you pay for with the price diferential?

Thanks again for your help.

Regards

In order to record gs Microsoft Wavetable, I plugged a jack/jack line from microphon controler to speackers outline. It works ;-)
