How To Re-Download Instruments?

MarcosB wrote on 4/16/2019, 6:47 AM

I found myself in the situation where my instruments were not working correctly in Music Maker Pro. They all complained about not being activated, it might have been after this weekend's upgrade, it does not matter.

In my haste/frustration to remedy the situation, I deleted their files/folders from C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\MxSynth, I actually emptied out the folder, thinking that Music Maker Pro would allow me to re-download them from the store.

Well no, the store thinks that I have them already and there is no way to force them to re-download or make the program see that they are absent.

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the program thrice. Any help would be appreciated it.

Hi

. . . . the store thinks that I have them already and there is no way to force them to re-download or make the program see that they are absent . . . .

Click the Store tab and then the Gear and select Download all purchased content

Note you have to option of saving the downloads on you computer, if you have the space and do, then they do not have to be downloaded again for re-installing.

Thank you for your response. Sadly, it only shows my loops/soundpools in that menu, not even my "Features". Also, where is this feature for keeping my downloads?

MarcosB wrote on 4/18/2019, 9:12 AM

So no one has had to do this before? I've already tried reaching out to Customer Service and all I received was a message asking for screenshots since they could not apparently understand my issue. This is frustrating, I mean I paid for this content, and now I cannot access it.

Yes it is true that I chose to delete the files from the folder, but I did not cause them to stop working initially, and I also did not write the store/downloader code that ONLY allows you to overwrite soundpools and not anything else.

Hi,

First mistake, never delete program type files that were done through installation. You have to uninstall, not delete. Now you probably have registry entries blocking you. The synths are also under:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MAGIX Services\MxSynthss

and they probably work together with the ones in the folders that you deleted.

You may be able to uninstall these under Windows Apps, Music Maker Premium (Synthe…) or something like that.

What upgrade are you talking about? Windows, MusicMaker, from what to what?

If you upgraded MusicMaker from version 25 to 27, then you have to Activate using any serial numbers that you have for older versions and then go to the Store, click on the gear and download and activate everything to which you are entitled. If you are not logged in to the Store, then do so. Some actions, like a cleanup log you out. Same thing if you uninstall and reinstall the program - activate, download and install.

Watch this tutorial:

Failing all of that, try using the Microsoft uninstaller from the internet. Search for it.

I will try this tonight, thank you for the guidance. And yes it was the upgrade to 27.

MarcosB wrote on 4/18/2019, 9:15 PM

So the one thing that is odd, is that after 5 re-installs, I never get that Activation to look like yours in that video, The 2 serial numbers that I own, both show up with green check marks, never the activate button next to them. I've been searching and searching the internet for the means to wipe it all clean, as in I would not re-entering my serials. But to no avail.

MarcosB wrote on 4/19/2019, 12:25 AM

I finally was able to fix it, I installed the program and the instruments into another computer and copied stuff over. This is something that I think they should work on, validation of media on launch or in the very least an option to re download instruments, whether or not i thinks that they are there

If the Music Maker versions you are trying to validate are older than MX then they will not validate, only Music Maker versions MX onwards are compatible.

. . . . . This is something that I think they should work on . . . .

The issue you are having is somewhat unique, and may be specific to your computer set-up of which you have provided no information. Please read this topic and put your computer spec and Music Maker details in your signature as recommended in the link to topic.

@browj2 already said above, never delete files from a programm without uninstalling it.

There’s no proper uninstall for ANY of the content. The Microsoft uninstall tool that was mentioned above was able to clean them out of the system, but this did not make them re-downloadable. The solution was ultimately to do a fresh install in a brand new machine and copy them over manually.

I am a software developer myself and I’m a firm believer in two basic principles, no software product is beyond improvement and it’s best for all discussions if they remain constructive.

There is nothing constructive in pointing out what should or shouldn’t have been done. Time flows forward, those statements do not lead to an action, they are not helpful. Let me put it to you another way, let’s assume that there was a hardware failure and those assets are now inaccessible, my original question stands. If for whatever reason the instruments become inaccessible, there is no way to re download them.

Hi

Your version of Music Maker, v 27.0.2.28, is not the current version which is 27.0.3.33 - did you not upgrade to the latest patch or have you discontinued your subscription?

It was after THAT upgrade that the instruments first became inoperable. So I will be skipping that upgrade. Basically I had installed that upgrade, the instruments stopped working, I tried to redownload them, I couldn’t. Then I thought that if I removed them, I could then download them again. And you know the rest.

Btw, my serials don’t have an expiration? Are they supposed to?

No, they never "expire" but future updates to MM will only be available to you for as long as you subscribe to the Update Service.

The music maker has lifetime updates. You only have to pay when you want additional soundpools, instruments, presets and functions.
There is no update service.

Hi MarcosB, it's probably way too late, but it happens that I encountered the same issue (with Drum Engine not functionning after an update).

This is how I was able to "do th trick" to make it work again (maybe useful for next time):

1 - go to the Windows parameter menu

2 - Select the "Applications" menu (I don't know how it's called in English, but you may refer to the picture below :

3 - In the list of programs, select "MAGIX Content and Soundpools" (once again, I assume this is the English name for it) :

4 - Select "Uninstall"

5 - In the new window that opens subsequently, you can choose to remove only the instrument you have issue with:

6 - And "voilà"...you just have to run MM, and next to the "Store" tab, you will have now a "download" tab which informs you that you can download the instrument again:

Tadaaaa....

Thankfully you will not have to run another complete install on a third PC ;-)

Never too late, thank you Phillipe!

John EB. I am new to Magix and am using the FREE version. I have purchased "Power Guitar" which downloaded successfully but it does not appear in the Soundpool "Instruments".

I have located its folder in my computer but can you please tell me how to move it into the instrument section so that I can use it ?

SP. wrote on 10/27/2020, 3:54 AM

@Bloodnok Isn't the instrument selectable when you click on the instrument icon on the audio track header?

Bloodnok wrote on 10/27/2020, 4:48 AM

SP... There's no icon anywhere. Where's the audio track header please ? Bloodnok

Hi

Try logging out of the store, restart Music Maker and log back into the Store again, this should fix the issue.
