How to put a track on an image

TiddlyWinks wrote on 4/7/2013, 2:40 AM

I've been trying to overlay an image over someones face, but obviously since they are moving this is dificult, and the basic movement options don't help at all. Any way you can track the image about to stay on their face? (Or something of the sorts) I'm sure you've probably seen it in a youtube video. They actually did this in funniest home videos with the Host's face at times.

P.S. I'm not talking about the tracks on which you place video and music.

Product: Magix Movie Edit Pro MX

Edit: Excuse me for my ignorance about what this is called, I meant motion tracking.

Hi,

From page 149 of the PDF Manual:

Attach to picture position in the video
You can attach a video, picture or text object to moved picture content of another video. The attached object automatically completes the movement of a picture  element from the film, making it appear magnetic. For example, you could use this  method to insert a hat that stays on someone's head throughout, even if the person  hops through the picture.
Let's roll:
•  Place an overlay object (e.g. a photo of a hat) on a track below a video with a moving image element (e.g. a walking person).
•  Right click the object and select the "Attach to picture position in the video" movie point.
•  Then click "Continue" in the dialog that appears.
•  The next dialog asks you to draw a frame around the image content to be tracked. The content should have high contrast to its background.
•  Movement will be automatically calculated and a series of keyframes that control the position and size of the effect according to your wishes will be generated.

In practice, I've found that this works OK only if the target contrasts sharply with its surroundings

Hi

The method Terry descrbes sometimes fails to track correctly - if your fails to track then you will have to resort to a more complicated method doing the tracking manually using Keyframes.

Depending on the image you want to overlay ie

1.    if you want to overlay the whole image - resized to fit the face - apply keyframe animation to the image.

2.    whether it is a portion of an image, and you want to mask out the remainder of the image, over one face then see this post --  in your case the image overlay goes on track 1 - the example given is for pixellating a face.
