How to make ''Movie Studio 2024 Platinum'' less Visually-Painful??!?

Apollo89x wrote on 3/19/2024, 10:42 AM

I had MEP (2022).
It worked fine, up until a few weeks ago, when it developed a fault which would cause it to freeze-up (for 10-seconds), approx 30-seconds after the program was launched.
*This happened every single time | Even when no video was loaded into it!

I saw that there was an upgrade-offer, to upgrade to the 2024 version for just £15...
And so I paid that, to see if the new version would repair this fault | And it has.

Unfortunately though the 2024 version is extremely Visually Painful on your eyes :: Due to the bizzare high-contrast colour-scheme Magix has chosen to deploy on it! *_*

But so I just wondered if it's possible to change the colour-scheme of the program to a non visually-painful one?

To showcase the high-contrast visual difference between the 2 versions, I have attached screenshots below:

@Apollo89x

It seems you have chosen to have the top menu bar display in purple/lilac. That is not the default setting for MMS or VPX.

Presumably, that is not what you are referring to? Other than that I see very little evidence of major visual changes between the two images you posted.

Hi Jeff, the top bar only changes colour when you grab the top bar.

The differences are in the text / graphics. The new layout has the text and Icons thinner, brighter and sharper.

A lot may depend on the resolution of the screen it is on.

I agree. Rejigged by 25YO nerds with good eyesight. I wouldn't like to use the program on a 4k screen unless it was a whopper. Dark blue timeline code: what were they thinking?? 😂 And the media pool is a mess.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi

Have you adjusted the Windows theme to High Contrast with modified colours?

@CubeAce

. . . . the top bar only changes colour when you grab the top bar . . . .

Only if the Windows theme has been modified, or are using theme modifier software for impaired vision, using the default settings the top bar does not change.

@Former user

You're lucky. I can only dream of the days when I was 56 and could sit at the desk as normal with no glasses on and read the screen with no problem. Now, 2 decades on, reading the screen is a little more tricky. I could buy a bigger screen but that means a bigger desk which means more space taken up which means my wife would become annoyed and stop talking to me.

Now there's a thought ...

@Apollo89x @AAProds

With you all the way regarding size of text, buttons etc. The colours don't bother me too much apart from the blue on grey timeline and the grey on grey for the "object name" bar beneath the keyframe window. Then there's the bottom bar that show the CPU progress which could be a few pixels thinner to allow for more space above it for we single non-huge monitor people and then there's ...

Hi

Have you adjusted the Windows theme to High Contrast with modified colours?

No, my Windows theme is just standard, (*plus the same in both screenshots).

However Magix have created the 2024 version with a very a high-contrast design :: Which is painful on the eyes to look at!

SP. wrote on 3/20/2024, 12:54 PM

@Apollo89x Does your monitor offer an eye-friendly mode? This can help a lot with eye-strain.

johnebaker wrote on 3/20/2024, 4:58 PM

@Apollo89x

Hi

I have compared your screenshots to mine, and they are to all intents and purposes identical, I did have to change two Windows theme settings to get the pane top bars to be purple when selected.

As the screen shot is captured internally from the 'frame buffer' ie before it gets sent to the monitor for display, I suspect this may be monitor settings such as Brightness and Contrast being incorrectly set.

Is/are the monitor(s) coloured corrected using a Colour calibration tool?

. . . . a very a high-contrast design . . . .

On the contrary, the design is lower contrast. You will find the colour schemes of many programs are of similar lower contrast colour schemes, these came about through Health & Safety issues with regular computer users suffering from eye strain due to high contrast, and/or too bright interfaces.
