how to make a midi loop at precise point

forukotan wrote on 9/22/2016, 4:01 PM

here is what my problem is this time.

i made a midi in a blank 8 bars but my midi isnt 8 bars its like 6 and somenotes. i realized this was a problem when i extended my object to 90 measures after my midi i made was done playing there would be a 2 bar quiet gap.

so my question is how do i make my midi end at a very precise time so that when it loops it stays in rythym with everything else im trying to do?

If I can pop in on this, one way is to put your mouse near the lower-right corner of the Object (in your case the MIDI Object with notes in it) and drag the corner of it. This will lengthen or shorten the width of the object, telling it when to "end" or stop playing. Then, you can repeat the Object over and over and it should give you the effect you are looking for.

Another way, is to Split the Object, "cutting" it where you want it to end. Zoom into the Arranger area and place the Playback Marker where you want the Object to "end" and stop playing, by clicking on the Time Ruler (with Beats or Time indicators on it). Then, be sure to click on the Object you want to Split and then hit "T" on your keyboard, to Split the Object at the Playback indicator. It should then have "cut" the Object where you wanted to.
You can also go up to the Edit pulldown menu and go to the Object category, then click on Split Objects (is what the menus would look like in Music Maker). Then, you can repeat the Object over and over and it should give you the effect you are looking for.

You're welcome, I'm sorry it wasn't exactly what you wanted... Ah I see what you mean, that you want to be able to just drag it to repeat over and over, like it does 'automatically'.

To be able to do that, end the MIDI Object in the same way (cut or drag) until you get it the duration ("size") you want, then with the MIDI Object selected, go up to the Edit pull-down menu and navigate to the Object category, then Loop Range, then choose Set User Defined Loop

Now you should be able to drag out your Loop how you designed it

Hi,

As far as I know, you can't loop a MIDI object, only an audio object. You need to transform your MIDI object to audio. To do this:

  1. Make sure that the MIDI object ends on a bar.
  2. Make a copy of the MIDI object and put it on a separate track in case you want to make changes later. Add the instrument to the new track.
  3. Solo the track with the MIDI object that you want to transform.
  4. Select it.
  5. Edit, Track, Compile audio (Ctrl+Shft+G)
  6. File Explorer will appear, give your object a name and ok
  7. The MIDI object will disappear and an new audio file will appear on a new track.
  8. You can now loop this by stretching the object using the lower right handle.

Note that you can create a loop of more than one track/instrument. Whatever is not muted gets transformed. Just remember to keep a copy of the original MIDI objects either on separate muted tracks, or in a separate project with a different name.

See also the discussion that we have been having about looping a MIDI object.
