Okay, so I installed the plugin (?) for Sound Forge - currently Izotope Ozone 9 Elements.
Please explain how to use it.
The closest I've been able to get to is to select FX Favorites -> Izotope -> Ozone 9 Elements. (I presume I have to select the audio I want to work on first, right?)
And then I get a kind of FX dialog box with three buttons at the top (Equalizer, Imager, Maximizer). And then Master Assistant on the title bar.
There's some documentation about each of these features (click on ?) so that's not the issue.
But firstly, there seems to be some strange bugs:
- When I select options or history, all I see is a blank dialog box with just an X for close on the top right.
- After going through the first screen for Master Assistant, all I see is a super-dimmed version of the FX dialog box. I'm supposed to see an accept/cancel button, according to the documentation and maybe things that I can adjust.
Secondly, I don't see any of the other filters that are mentioned in the Izotope product description page. Namely, how do I bring up:
de-click *
de-clip *
de-hum *
voice de-noise *
batch processor
fade
find similar
gain
mixing
normalize
etc.
* available as a plug-in - what does this mean and where is it?
Maybe these are support questions for Izotope - if I can figure out how to access/activate these features then it might be worth upgrading to the "standard" version. But I'm not sure if/how this integrates with Sound Forge. Do I have to manually find and add these extra plugins or effects from within Sound Forge?
Stuck and going round in circles.
Please advise.
Thanks :)
Update
Please excuse my ignorance. It wasn't obvious, but I figured out in the end that these things are called VST and that they get inserted into Sound Forge under Options -> Preferences -> VST Effects.
Well, the Izotope effects were in a common folder. There was Izotope Elements 8 and Izotope Elements 9. I searched in the Izotope folder under Program Files, but didn't find anything new. I.e. none of the missing effects as listed above.
Finally, when I launched Izotope Elements 8 (thinking that maybe the missing effects are part of the previous version of Ozone), the dialog box opened up, I clicked on continue and then Ozone opened with a not-responding blank screen. I had to close down Sound Forge. This probably means that I don't actually have Elements 8 installed at all, but there are some vestigial VST files left over from who knows when...?
2nd Update
It seems that I didn't choose "easy setup" for the Ozone installation, which installs ALL the plugins. I chose "custom setup" and I had no idea what I was installing coz the list of effects was just a list of acronyms like AAX, VST2, VST3, NKS but also Relay and Tonal Balance Control. No others were listed.
Of course, it then took several minutes for Sound Forge to load because it was scanning for all those VST plugins...! But essentially, it seems to be all about managing VST effects, some of the Ozone effects seem unstable (they're unchecked in the VST effects tab and "fail to load properly" when checked). And I can't find all of the effects listed above. So probably an Izotope issue and not anything to do with Magix and Sound Forge...
I'll leave this post here for others who have similar questions about how to get started with Sound Forge and/or Ozone. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions or ideas...
