How to Get Items Purchased with MM 2020 into MM 2021 and New Computer

Trevor-Mallard wrote on 9/23/2021, 7:23 AM

There was a similar post ( Mikey ? ) but didn't solve my somewhat different problem. Windows 10.

I purchased MM 2020 and a lot of instruments and sound pools. I have all those folders saved ( Database, Live Pads, MxSynth, and Soundpools ). Then the computer crashed, fatally. Now have purchased MM 2021 and a new computer. So how do I get those instruments and sound pools to work with MM 2021 and the new computer. I tried placing them in Public Documents\MAGIX\Common and MM 2021 does not see them. I also tried placing them in ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker\29 and that didn't work either.

I cannot afford to purchase them all again. Any advice would be appreciated.

@Trevor-Mallard

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

MM 2020 was the last 32 bit version of the program; MM 2021 and 2022 are both 64 bit, so need your soundpools etc to be updated for the new version.

You say you've purchased MM 2021; did you mean that (version 29) or MM 2022 (version 30)? Whichever, you need to log into your account and enter the serial number for your 2019 version; this will trigger a potential download of ALL the needed updates to your instruments and soundpools. The actual downloads may take some time if you have a large quantity of them; when the downloads are finished (they will appear under the "Downloads" tab) at least some of them will require you to activate their installation.

Okay, I re-scanned the soundpools and MM 2021 found them all. But still don't know how to get MM 2021 to see the previously purchased instruments. Do I need to reset the shop cache ??

Thanks Jeff for your response. My MM 2020 is Version 28 and my MM 2021 is Version 29.

I will try logging on with the Version 28 serial number and see what happens. Will have to wait until after 2:00 am as I have satellite-based internet with hard data limits 8:00 am to 2:00 am.

Hi,

Once you are logged in, go to the Downloads tab and download and install everything - your instruments will be there. MMM2020 was a 32 bit version, 2021 64 bit version. Your instruments will be updated to the 64 bit version.

Yes, you can do a Cleanup Store under Program Settings, then log in when the program restarts.

Do not try just copying instruments from one computer onto the other, that just makes things worse. You use the program to do this, as indicated above.

Thanks John. Will do.

It worked. Have downloaded several of the old instruments, will take a while to get them all. Thanks !!

By the way, the soundpools did not have to be re-downloaded. The re-scan is all it took. Only the instruments needed to be re-downloaded.

Hi Trevor,

Glad you got it sorted out.

There seems to be a persistent problem with some Soundpools coming back into the Downloads Manager in MMM2022. They already show up under Loops. Cleanup Store often helps, but I keep getting instruments and Soundpools showing up for download. I recall that I had similar problems in 2021, but I just ignored them.

For completeness about what I mentioned, if you have any Soundpools that you purchased prior to the birth of the in-app Store, then these are not managed by your account, but by you. They should be under the root Soundpools folder, not under:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools\Shop

These you should always back up and you can simply copy them under Soundpools from one computer to another. This also pertains to any Soundpools downloaded from Producer Planet. You unzip them under Soundpools.

At some point, I suggest that you upgrade the program to 2022 as it's free. No need to purchase the 2022 Premium Edition to do this unless you want the new features listed in the Comparison chart. Everything that you had before, like 2021 Premium, instruments, etc., will still work, but you get the new Song Maker and BeatBox. Of course, you will probably then have a bunch of stuff under Downloads.

There are still some bugs to be sorted out, but it seems to be no worse than 2021. Perhaps some others will think otherwise.
