How to fix stretched photos in video

I am using movie edit pro 17 on windows and i have uploaded images into new project. My problem is that the images seem to be restrained in the video so they appear to be stretched vertical. Some are OK but the ones in the horizontal are squeezed. How can I format the images so that they are not affected but just are displayed as they are originally formated?

Unless your original images exactly match the aspect ratio you have chosen for your project (4:3, 16:9, or whatever) there will, almost inevitably, be some stretching/shrinking/aspect adjustment required to make the photos "fit".  This is especially true of images in "Portrait" aspect, since video is inherently "Landscape".

The easiest method to adjust your photos to fit the screen, IMO, is to simply select each one in turn (make sure it's highlighted) and go to Effects>Movement Effects>Size and Position and adjust the on-screen handles display until the image "fits".  (The window/menu which opens under Size and Position also offers a number of other alternatives, including "Set Original Size".)
