I've made a slideshow with music...burned a DVD, but it only plays in our blue ray player, but won't play on my laptop.

I exported as a video file that should work to watch on other PC's, and saved it as a 'windows media' format; however, it won't play with the windows player on my laptop either. 

How do I export in a format that can be watched on a laptop?
