How to Enable or Configure Microphone for Recording ACL 2013

Longblades wrote on 9/21/2015, 3:52 PM

New computer, Windows 8.1, have installed ACL 2013.  Cannot get microphone to work for recording.  Front mic disappeared when I tried to disable and then re-enable, can't get it back.  Rear mic not working.  Configure button is greyed out.

Hi,

In ACL, right-click on the red Record button to open the parameter screen. Under audio input, select the input device (mic) that you want to use. You can also adjust the sound card settings. You should review this screen as there are many other useful parameters that you should know about.

Thank you for the answer.  I've discovered my problem.  Inexplicably the mic port on my new computer is TOO BIG.  I still have the ACL 2013 working on an older computer and the same mic works just fine on it.  On the new one I have to hold it in.   Weird, eh?  I should return this computer becasue of that.

Hi

. . . . Inexplicably the mic port on my new computer is TOO BIG. . . . .

Is your computer a standard brand/model or is it a custom build?

I assume the mic is not USB or has a 1/4 inch jack plug?

AFAIK all standard computer audio plugs/sockets are 3.5 mm diameter.

The next size up socket is the 1/4 inch jack socket which a 3.5mm plug would not even make contact with the terminals inside.

This suggests to me that the socket has been damaged - many have a retaining ring/sleeve and this may have been pushed back into the case or broken off.
